Tin tomatoes & cucumbers !!!!!!!!!

I bought 2 massive cucumbers from Costco for £1.99 yesterday if that helps anyone:wave: Fit Likeee!:j0

I thought that 33pence was a lot for the tomoatoes, a couple of months ago they were 24 pence in sainsburys.0

I also bought the tesco toms with garlic at 25p. Hubby claims to not like garlic but he will never know when they are in a bolognaise sauce or chilli. In fact its chilli for tea so watch this space.0

And a couple of months before that they were 17p! I used to use them to make my own pasta sauces, but it's now cheaper to buy the Basics pasta sauce ready-made (but this does have a lot of I'm-not-so-sure-how-healthy ingredients in  )0 -
I'm a greengrocer and can tell you that yes, cucumbers cost me about £1 each wholesale. I paid £14.50 just this morning for a box of 14. They are usually dutch or spanish and if you put it this way, all it takes is for a country like spain or holland to have a sharp frost or cold snap to wipe out a whole crop, weakening supply against an already strong demand thus a price increase.
Its not rocket science.0 -
I'm going to have a go this year at grwoing my own veg this year, I like salad stuff it has been going up 3 pepper 1.45 in Mr t and that was their basic range.0

They go out of season every winter but cant recall them ever being this much.
Thanks wembley78 for being the resident supermarket spokesman in justifying the rises but whilst there has been a change in the currency rates, it is not by the big percentage of price rises.
I am sorry but it winds me up when someone comes on a money saving website and tries to justify it, whether it is right or not.
Yes and when things are out of season, we -or tescos etc, buy them in from elsewhere. The price is higher now as the price of fuel to do this is that much higher.
Its a high increase as I would imagine Tescos and etc don't pay alot for in season cucumbers and what they do charge is to cover fuel price.0 -

The cost of fuel is cheaper than it has been for a couple of years, so your reason just does not wash.
I am well aware that there are seasonal rises when things are out of season in this country, but nev er have cucumbers been so high. The trouble is, now they have gone so high, they will never go anywhere near as low again to what they were in the summer.
You have seen here people are now saying they will not buy at these prices, a good way of saying 'we will not accept these rises'. Not just say 'oh well fuel has gone up, i will still have to buy it'.0 -

They are also on offer at the moment 2 for £1.00
I've been moaning about the price of cucumbers for the last month, £1.28 is expensive for 1 lot of veg for my bunny, but I am very lucky that he happily eats a wide range of veg, so cucumbers, just won't be on his menu till the prices drop!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
