cucumbers are out of season they will cost more.
They go out of season every winter but cant recall them ever being this much.
Thanks wembley78 for being the resident supermarket spokesman in justifying the rises but whilst there has been a change in the currency rates, it is not by the big percentage of price rises.
I am sorry but it winds me up when someone comes on a money saving website and tries to justify it, whether it is right or not.0 -
If you have a Lidl near you the cucumbers are a lot cheaper there (sorry can't remember the actual price, but definitely less than a pound) also tinned toms are cheaper there as wsell.0

I went to Morrison's Saturday....NO cucumbers, need them to feed my snails. 80p at lidl.
Off-topic... we have snails too and cucumber is about the only thing they appear to eat (despite trying to give them a varied diet). Any suggestions? I think we had some success with dandelion leaves during the summer but nothing else seems to interest them.

Have you tried Romaine lettuce? We had GALS, and our neighbours had some from the same batch. Ours were fed mainly cucumber, theirs Romaine lettuce- and theirs thrived!

I never have been and never will be the resident spokesman for justifying price rises in supermarkets or indeed anywhere else. Checking my previous posts proves that point, thanks. All i was doing was stating that the change in currency exchange rates has an influence on the price rise, as well as the fact in this case an item is out of season. And at no point did i state it was for the whole amount.
I hate price rises as much as anyone else does and also believe the full rise of approx 50% is way too much. One day you are the bird and the next you are the statue, but everyday you should try to do something you love0 -

64p a half, £1.28 whole cucumber in ASDA yesterday, too. Decided I was not that keen on cucumber to pay twice what they were not so long ago.
They'll probably be 10p in the reduced section before long!

It's a really good job we don't have inflation, just rising prices!0
