  • I had every belief in myself and in being able to overcome my own hard-earned insecurities. But could tell the lie of the land from the outset - not against me so much but the general air of grumpiness, witchery and back-biting. I just didn't reckon on becoming a target of it (gave so little to go on) and had no intention of joining in with it.

I hate the most that a member has been involved in it and that I don't know how long this has gone on or how far-reaching the nasty little tentacles of it are.

    yes.

recording them without their consent would be sneaky, shows lack of trust, an invasion of privacy, and doesn't ultimately lead to anything good.

so they were having a !!!!!y day. doesn't mean they *really* think that, it may be for comedy effect. which is not nice, but people do it. doesn't mean you would never win them over. doesn't mean they want to sack you.

does mean you now feel paranoid.

Emmzi - I didn't say that I had - but any lack of trust would seem to be justified in my opinion. I know that eavedroppers never hear good of themselves and that ignorance can be bliss. But while I'm on the metaphor overload - knowledge is power and forewarned is forearmed. It's never easy to know whether ignorance or knowledge is preferable.

I would put money on me getting fired.

And paranoia is bred not born.

Dont do this, get a Polyols like Mannitol, or the not as effective (needs a larger dose) Sorbitol, they are artificial sweetners and swap it out with the sugar. Mannitol especially has a laxative effect, so the sh.t can now flow from both ends! :D

Just bing some diabetic sweets to work from Thorntons £2+ per bag - and put them in another sweetie bag. That too should keep 'em going and focus their minds on other things.

    Hmmm - a thought bookduck.

Might fail though; the many chocolates and choccy biccies that were given to us (the team) at Christmas - ended up living on Her desk and being rationed one by one only on days when she was in the office (this being despite the fact that she and the other one were given many many gifts of their own as I was the new girl so exempt).

Knowing me, I'd forget and stuff them in my own face and then there would be WAY too many trips to the Ladies icon10.gif

No 'security' camera there, perhaps you should then suggest one to your boss. Could also cover the till, should one make mistakes, evening burglars and one with a microphone is not that much more expensive.

Those trade replies, magazine coupons - the freepost ones. Just reply with the ring leaders name and title her 'Managing Director' - most owner/people in power get quite miffed if the subordinates over step their mark

I walked out of job after having two people who were technically under me do this for over 18 months. i have had the last laugh i am in a far better job which I thourghly enjoy. it is so hurtful when it gets that bad - and i know we all make comments about people occasionally but to feel like you are constantly being watched and sniggered at it is soul destroying. However i can get rid of one of your problems - you don't lick seal 500 envelopes you get a small container of water and either a sponge or brush and line up the gummed portion of the envelopes and wipe the water over - you then start folding and sealing at the bottom one and job is done -
If they have been there a long time console your self with this as you are felling unfufilled at it. how much more able you are than them and how they will be therelong after you've gone on to better things. and god forbid they should have to start new jobs. then they may realise how horrible people can be .

if i were you i'd look for another job! its not worth it! when i was 17 i was bullied... well i say bullied it was more that everyone ignored me for no reason and laughed at me behind my back!
i used to come home shaking and crying and found myself drinking a bottle of wine to myself after work (worked thursday/friday/saturday part time) to calm myself down.
people are horrible! this has affected me throughout my whole career making my prediciment now (unemployed) even worse because i know i'll have to go through the "new girl" routine again, and pray everyone likes me.

Poor you - I understand totally. (I do know of an upcoming vacancy in my area..... They might like you!)

The fact remains though - doesn't it - that we can't like everybody and can't expect everyone to like us? But the pity is that some people take their dislike if that's genuinely what it is) to the wrong level and screw up someone's life because of their own hang ups.

Next time, I work for a man. Much better.
(Not that I'm sexist or anything but I have had lovely male bosses.)

Choccies are the expensive ones. Think of individually wrapped hard boiled sweets - called Diabetic Fruit Drops:D

They are fantastic as they are and taste like real sweets, but you just would not want to munch the whole bag in one sitting - 3 are fine though.

Don't get me started about security cameras.....

    The post. Ah, the post.
I am tasked with opening the mail. I had been entrusted with opening and disributing t but was told that she must have all the post. She gets the bleeping junk mail too now. And serves her right.

Plus I am REMINDED to look in the post tray for mail that needs to go (it's opposite my desk for bleep's sake) but then when people put it there after the postman has been, I am strangely at fault for it not going that day but the next.

I get the impression you are tall and gorgeous ?

She is - I've had a coffee with her...

GTC: I'm so glad you've found another job...

I'd find out and get to the bottom of the database issue...if only to prove them wrong or find out if you did make an error.

I'd make sure if asked to do a task again such as licking envelopes, suggest that the self seal ones really are less of a timewaste, so suggest using them [esp if you know they've got some in the cupboard] and just play the reaction.

Other than that, it's really sad women with nothing better to do, so do start looking for something else [whilst you have a decent reference]...

They might well be mortified that you know about this - is the high level member in a position to make a complaint on your behalf?

P.S....I don't think planting diabetic sweets or laxatives re the answer - I don't think you do either...

Thanks for the tip re. the envelopes. Part of the joke (excluding me) was that as the contents are not life or death, it doesn't matter if the envelopes are merely tucked in. That brought the house down with gales of laughter.

    People hm?
