I think this must be the Bernadine Lawrence book to which you are referring. She used to post on here as chelseahousewife. I particularly liked her book and apparently she's planning another one - can' wait!
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D

The Frugal Cookbook by Fiona Beckett is another very good one. I've had it from the library for the past few weeks. I also love The Paupers Cookbook by Jocasta Innes, I was brought up on the recipes from this book LOL!

Well, since discovering MSE a week ago I've not been able to tear myself away from the pc! I've picked up so much useful info, thank you all, and was delighted to find a copy of The Paupers Cookbook today in a new charity bookshop in town (which is only open for 6 weeks!). My heart skipped a beat when I spotted it, I was searching through the shelf for any thrifty cookbooks and there it was. I'm well and truly hooked on MSE and trying to live more sensibly (just like Mum taught me I'm pleased to say, OS is second nature to me I just forgot my roots)
  • I was perusing a Margueritte Pattern cookbook of my mums from 1965. She had a whole section devoted to BRAINS _pale_
Can't see that part ever being reproduced any time soon :rotfl:
I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife :D Louise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.

Welcome lucy*locket! I'm also quite new to MSE, and find it hard to tear myself away from the OS boards at times.

I just wanted to add to this thread because I bagged myself a copy of "The Cook's Scrapbook" (Reader's Digest) this morning in my local Oxfam for £3.99. What a fab book! It's sub-title reads... "Secrets from our Grandmothers' kitchens, rediscovered for today's cooks." Loads of old fashioned recipes with great photos and I'm feeling quite inspired (and I'm someone for whom cooking is not a natural talent! :rotfl: )
