No, honestly thriftlady - it really, truly was half a rabbit for £8.99! I think after what Beki said I'll query the price next time I'm in the butcher's. My in-laws live near Dover and I've never bought meat in their local farm shop but I have looked at it and it's a lot cheaper than round here. Our butcher's is in the "Q" Guild of quality butchers, but even so!0 -

When I got married, 30 some years ago, (I don't admit to being over 30:rotfl: ) I had two books that were an enormous help to me. One is the Supercook's Supersaver cook book and the other one was called the Five Loaves and Two Fishes Cook book. While the Five loaves one was not exactly for saving money, more for making what you had go further, it was a fantastic help for good meals. Altho, you might have to look at second hand shops to get them. There was also one years ago about how to live on the money you get from unemployment. I think it was called Living on £3.50 a day, but I don't really remember it. Try the Hillbilly Housewife web site as well. That is quite cheap.Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can't get more time0

The best cookery book I've ever come across, which is also very frugal, is the Glasgow Cookery Book. It's not "fancy" cooking, though it does have some delicious recipes which work very well as dinner party food, and it doesn't have a single illustration but it is very good at explaining everything you need to know about both the dish and the cooking thereof.

This isn't a "buy it now" link, just one to the history of the book. If you want to buy it I'd just search online. I'm not selling my copy!!If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -
Have just ordered the Jocasta Innes book from Amazon....look forward to getting it while there is nobody to see arriving post as my 'children' all think that I am mad all the books I have....there are even times when I agree with themWeight 08 February 86kg0
