In theory, yes, or possibly - it depends on whether there is 3g coverage in the area where you'll be. If not it will switch back to the slower gprs speed.

Vodafone's roaming tariff will be fairly high for data, as most are. The tariff for 2g only may be cheaper but i don't know much about all this myself yet

I went on Holiday to the Middle East in September and I took my laptop and my Vodafone 2g card with me as a lot of the countries didn't have a partner offering 3g. Worked fine, but keep in mind that accessing in this way is very expensive, so check the costs of data downloading if you don't have unlimited access, and what the cost are abroad (usually about £5 -10/mb for Orange and Vodafone). In addition, 1mb doesn't go very far and I would advise you to switch off any auto-updaters and such (MSN, Anti-Virus, Windows Updater), as these will happily munch away on your downloading amount). Also go to their websites for details of which countries offer 3G roaming.

I notice some of the laptop retailers include a Vodafone 3G card. At £2 per MB it's not cheap!
