Hi i need to buy a new graphic card that support 3.0 shader model. But i dont know what would be compatible with my computer. I opened it up and it had 4 slots sticking out of the motherboard. 3 white 1 black. I have no clue what type is needed although on my motherboard it said PCI-express.
Can someone help me determine what type of graphic card i need. Also recommend me a graphic card that supports 3.0 shader. Moderately priced. I would be externally grateful.

Here's a couple of different ones... ignore the prices... but these are the cards you needs... the prices are OK but prob find them cheaper!
(Nvidia) BFG GeForce 9500 GT 1024MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI - £57.99
(Nvidia) GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3 - £63.99
(ATI) Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4830 512MB GDDR3 - £82.99
They just a few examples... I'd go for a Nvidia one though... but thats personal preferance.0 -
earliest cards from nvidia to support sm3 were the 6 series (6600 etc) from ati the 1800 and 1900 series, any after that will but check your case as some of thenewer cards can be 10" in length and also more powerful ones may require a power supply upgradeclick here to achieve nothing!0

Which ones are compatible? I need to know what is compatible with my pc before i start looking at models and price. Can anyone help?0 -
You need a PCI-express card for the single (black) slot, already in use (??) What PC is it for then do you already have on-board graphics?
Go for Nvidia now. For games use ??0 -

All of those will work....
Aslong as you get a PCI-E card. It will work
the ones I posted all support 4.0 + 4.1 shader btw.
Ok great which one is the best one or which one do you recommend? Should i go for the one with the highest memory ram?? I really hope PCI-E is the one i need. This i my first time so im very nervous about the whole process.0 -
I'd go for either an ATI 4670 card - same price as the nvidia 9500gt but a lot quicker. Or if you can spend around 70 - 80, go for the 9600GT or ATI 4830.
If you only have a crap powersupply, or want to err on the side of caution, go for the ATI 4670. Make sure it is the 512mb version, not the 1gb.0 -
Comes highly recommended £36.79 (Shader 4)

Only if you're content to play games in low resolutions and details. The 9500GT is the bare minumum I would recommend.0 -
But the OP asked for a moderately priced card and no mention of the PC spec and what its intended game play might be....linked to a popular site so OP has a choice.0
