"My good electrician friend" Obviously not a very good friend for not telling you to get a corgi guy and putting your life in danger!
"when i pinch this red pipe" O my god, Please leave work that requires a corgi reg engineer to suprisingly a corgi reg engineer! You are all playing with your familys lifes!

Spot on gasbag. Unqualified idiots opening a positive pressure boiler, interferring with the flue and APS and then trying to get a real corgi out for free. Un-effing-believable.

P.S. At least I think it's positive, can't be bothered to look it up but this is a cousin of the netaheat isn't it?
  • I am not trying to get an engineer out for free.

I disconnected from power supply before removing cover, I pinched the red rubber pipe to confirm the problem as I got the information from a google search.

I am not stupid or an idiot, I understand the risks and I am going to get a CORGI engineer out to sort it.

Thank you., for your help and concerns.
Google gives you answers use it.........

Most gas boiler work is straightforward and it isn’t rocket science. ;)

We are working on the electrical parts of the boiler only and both myself and my qualified electrician friend are perfectly competent at identifying what we are capable of doing and what requires a qualified person.

How much training and what qualifications are really required to unscrew and remove the two retaining screws and then lift the boiler front cover off the two hinges at the top? Or to reverse that process?

It is simple and straightforward and the design of the cover makes it very difficult if not impossible to fit incorrectly.

We have checked the seal on the boiler front cover. It is in excellent condition.

On the few occasions I have paid qualified so called professionals, I have sometimes had to rectify their screw ups myself afterwards.

That includes the "professional" from the Electricity company who cleverly installed the positive and negative cables to my meter the wrong way round.

I’ve done diy work on electrics, plumbing and gas etc for over 30 years and not blown myself up yet. ;)
  • Hi

For the benefit of others reading this thread.

A while back there was a Rogue Traders special devoted to dodgy Corgis. (specifically ones who had stolen a registered Corgis ID.) It was stated that when the casing to the combustion chamber is removed he was committing an offence.
The Prima boilers fan is within the casing that forms part of the combustion chamber.

If you have a problem with that don't whine on to me about it see Matt Allright and the Rogue Traders team.;)

Ah, I see. A company comes out to diagnose the problem for free in anticipation of getting the job of fixing the boiler and the huge riches that this will bring.

But, oh no, the customer has a mate who is an electrican who is perfectly happy to fit the faulty parts diagnosed for free by the poor sod who came out for nothing.

I also know people who work for nothing. Usually they work for charities, but I'll bet that you don't do you?
You are confusing two different situations and two different people.

I haven’t called out a Corgi man and I don’t plan to call out a Corgi man unless a new fan does not fix the problem. The electrician and I are quite capable of replacing a fan. He replaced his five years ago and he is still alive.

I have advised Wayne, the other person in the other situation, to call out a Corgi man to diagnose his problem and to fix it if a repair is economical.

Two different situations. Two different approaches.

So, instead of an electrician and myself carefully doing the work, should I call out an Corgi man who is quite possibly a rogue and will know less and take less care than the electrician and me?

I read recently that there are more Corgi rogues than genuine Corgi qualified persons working on gas installations and that many of them work for British Gas and other supposedly big reliable companies.

    Food for thought.

I mean no offence to you and the other genuine Corgi guys posting on here.

As posted above, my own personal experience of using supposedly qualified people has often been dreadful and in the situation with the reversed polarity meter tails, potentially very dangerous.
  • I do not work for these AT ALL but have used them myself as a competent DIYer and ex engineer. It’s up to you but lots of trades help people on white goods when they get home from work so good luck. However, to work on gas stuff you have to by law (i think ) be CORGI regd. So think twice before blowing up your house and family. Call an egg spert and save your life not your money
