Is going back to BT worth it?

Looking for better phone deals sometimes requires having a BT line.
I currently pay a phone company with the line included. By returning to BT, I will get the line back. BT say that they will not charge for reconnection (£125?). I will have to pay the new phone prices for a 12 month contract, then I will be free to look around. I feel that saving on the reconnection charges will be better than the hiked prices for a year, (weekend and evening calls free + mobile benefits) Any comments or advice as to whether this is the best route.

Bear in mind that, although that would tie you to BT for line rental for 12 months, there's nothing to stop you opting for a CPS calls provider immediately (if one suits your calls pattern better). That, of course, would also allow you to use the 1280 prefix for making calls via BT when it suited you.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
