BT Retail free takeover of an LLU line

Just to let everyone know BT retail can now take over a current LLU line (Talk Talk /Tiscali / Bulldog etc line) FREE connection so no more £125 charge.
It does not matter if you are the customer of the LLU or a new customer to BT.Other companies can also do this if they choose to do so but this is good news to home movers moving into an address thats been unbundled as you no longer have to pay to connect when the line is LLU

give us your direct line then ;-), my g/f's property was previously with Talk Talk but its been cancelled and disconnected, what does she need to say to BT to get the line installed/restarted? or is this something different!

    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan

If the line is disconnected then at the moment full connection charges apply. The line has to be current with a pending stop order or current with no stop order to disconnect.
sorry if the line is disconnected then a full reconnetion charge is raised however if you want to use BT Retail then they have a £29.99 connection offer on an 18 month contract but you have to use BT retail for at least 10 calls a month so no good if your using cps/ws calls etc.
Free takeover of a stopped LLU is planned by BT Retail but not yet available so just wait and see

Looks like she will go with Sky then, based on the fact they will absorb the full connection charge, that 120 connection charge can go towards a substantial amount of her tv viewing for the year

its an unfair pricing system when its the same job for the engineer to come out and completely install a brand new line from the telegraph to the box, as it is to reactivate a disconnected line... surely the charge should be relative to the level of work involved.

If that were the case then you may end up with properties side by side both requiring a line, one pays £3399 the other £100 due to the work involved.
I can just imagine the howls of outrage if BT were allowed to charge the going rate per job instead of being forced to levy the current £122 no matter what the circumstances.
Still you may get your wish if BT gets rid of the USO.

i understand what you're saying, but the cost of going to the exchange and reconnecting, has to be far different to the outlay of having to install a new line in a property, I appreciate the cost is used to subsidise the instances where BT have to make special investment for rural properties etc. I would have just thought that if the line were already installed, surely it would be better to charge someone £20for example to reconnect the line when the engineer was next at the exchange, with the view of getting the customer for a 12month period, than not getting the customer at all. I know the original poster mentioned the 29.99 deal for 18months, but in todays lifestyle with properties etc, 18months could be too long. The downside is that she only needs it for broadband, but we dont offer the service of just a broadband line into a house unless you want cable (which is not in our area)

Its a difficult time for most people actually, and I know business is suffering as well to recruit and keep customers.

Well, that's good news, as I've heard that my current phone provider may go full LLU in a few months, and I was thinking about switching back before it happened in order to avoid this problem. It would be nice to hear more from people who've done it successfully and without hassle though, or some official statement from BT.

I've never understood the £125 - Openreach charge £34.86 plus VAT for moving from LLU to Wholesale Line Rental or a different LLU provider according to the pricing section of their website, and have done for a year now.

That price is the wholesale cost. it does not include paying the advisor to take the call and all the retail costs to the company you have placed an order with.

Sure, but don't those costs apply when you transfer a line from another Wholesale Line Rental provider? They'll do that for free.

In any case, it's difficult to believe that those costs amount to £85.
