Well, having written a one line letter back to dla saying "ccould you please look at my claim again as my CPN feels i am entitled to dla" I have by return post recieved LRC!
But it's not up to your CPN whether you receive DLA or not.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

My OH has recently been diagnosed as bipolar.
He has been given sicknotes by his gp for the last 6months but is unable to claim incapacity due to lack of NI contributions - anyone knowing anything about bipolar will recognise this! However he's still getting letters from the DSS demanding sicknotes!
It's been suggested he applies for DLA, we got the forms but I'm not sure? His psychyatrist has noted that he's not working but wants to go back to work if /when possible.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I work fulltime and we are managing (thanks to MSE) but it's getting a bit tight now.
Any help/advice gratefully recieved and apologies if I've posted in the wrong place!
Sorry if this reply is to late to help.
But were you told you are not allowed to claim IC or were you told you wouldnt get anything?
Because we were told sorry you arent entitled to anything, but when we looked into it further we found that we could put in a claim and we qualified for IC but because we hadnt made enougth NI contributions they couldnt make any payments, but it triggered automatic entitlement to Income Support.0 -
I have some good news to report, though must admit I am still a little disappointed with the outcome. After reconsideration have now been awarded LRM & LRC backdated to September 2009.
The reason I am now entitled to DLA when I wasn't initially is that I need guidance outdoors (agree with this bit), which they had denied the first time.
And I am entitled to LRC as I need help to plan or prepare a cooked meal!!. At no point was this ever mentioned, in either the application or the supporting letters sent a few weeks ago, I am perfectly capable of doing this and never suggested otherwise, although if on a downer do need a bit of a push to actually do it!
It was more about the fact I am no longer able to live independently, due to self neglect when I am in a depressive phase, or the fact I was doing bizarre things when in an elated phase. My sister gets up with me almost every night as I can't sleep most of the time and she is concerned about what I will do next (not in relation to harming myself), but because of the bizarre and on occasionly dangerous things I have done in the past. Most of the time I am just getting up for a cup of tea, but because I am so impulsive she won't risk it.
Am wondering if it is worth actually taking it to appeal or if I should accept the decision. To me LRC should mean I am pretty much independent, if I were left to my own devices and lived alone with the children, I would stay in bed all day every day (at the moment I am still switching between phases, since Christmas had one "high week", rest of the time I don't want to exist anymore as I am so down. I wouldn't wash or change my clothes, children weren't going to school etc.
Any advice appreciated xx0 -
Also the award letter says they will write and tell me when they can start paying me. Is that normal?0
