I agree, I am daft, but it wouldnt necessarily be a people carrier. What I am really getting at is the reliability, expense/no worries motoring. Plus me putting £220 away each month and leaving it alone just wouldnt happen

Lenny its all an illusion. We used to have a lovely (I admit I loved it) Audi A4 estate that was 2 years old and do you know what I spent more on repairing that car in the 2 years we owned it than we probably paid off the loan it cost us. The trouble with new cars is that they are all electronically contrlled and more trouble. A good old car that has been looked after will last and be reliable if you look after and have it serviced. No car will give you no worries motoring, it just doesn't happen!

what about one of those locked accounts that you have to put it in for a year - interest is higher too I think.

  • Sorry Len,
I get dead worried now when I see friends going down a slippery slope back into debt-my Mom is a prime example-SHE leases cars, have been bankrupt and is going down the same route again.

If you havent learned to save after all the stress of your debt, I think you may need to re-examine why you got into debt in the first place. My Mom gets hammered each time with her lease cars because inevitably you go over the allocated miles and they charge you for each and every mile over-and there is loads of 'clauses' etc.

I sound a bit high and mighty but honestly, I get stressed when I see my friends trying to maintain appearances etc to 'keep up with the Jones''

The people that CARE and matter don't give a flying monkey bee-hind WHAT car you drive.

Its funny Bun I almost crept back into that way of thinking today when I rocked up to Ballet in our old car...there was part of me that was embarrassed but then I just thought to myself when we had the big flashy car we had no money and it was just for show. We now have money to pay off our debts and will hopefully pay them all off this year...who gives a carp about what car I drive at least I know what I own I own and what you see if what you get with me!
