Can we have a little courtesy please?

I realise this is OT but....

In the last few days it seems like there has been a big increase in the number of objectionable or downright rude posts in this forum, in response to posts others have made.

I am not pretending to be perfect myself, but I think if someone posts something and you disagree to it, there are ways of putting things diplomatically and constructively rather than just blurting out that they are talking rubbish when that person is only trying to help whoever started the thread.

Can we feel the love in here a bit more please? After all most of these threads are about holidays, which should be stress free events!

Have you ever thought that what you class as 'objectionable' others may see as perfectly polite?

My advice: be less sensitive, it's only an internet forum for goodness sake! :p

On the other side though there are a lot of people asking for information, and when someone takes the time to give them a helpful answer they aren't even pressing the 'thanks' button, which is disappointing.

Can I have some links to some objectionable posts? They are much more entertaining than the polite ones.

    TIA.

Im starting to wonder if people know what the thank you button is for. Perhaps some of the new posters dont realise what you do and some people are just downright rude but thats life in general nowadays.
I work on the high street and its amazing how many people stick there head through the door and say "could you just tell me" and then ask some question like what terminal do i fly from? how much is my luggage allowance etc etc, Well why dont you go and ask the question to who you booked your holiday with instead of wasting my time. I wouldnt dream of buying a television from currys and then going to comet to ask them how i work it.

Thre's a report button if you feel a post is inappropriate-probably more useful than lecturing -especially when you aren't quoting specifics.
And yes I do agree the really annoying stuff is the posters who ask a question -and then don't like the answers and get stroppy or who don't bother even saying thank you

Do you need something in return?

People on mse seem obsessed with the thanks button.

I agree some members care more about post count and how many thanks they have got and not about what they are actually on this website for.
Pressing the Thanks button isnt compulsory although an acknowledgement of the time and effort you have taken to help someone would be appreciated and not just totally ignored.

Need no-but we all like to be appreciated. No-one HAS to bother replying helpfully so it makes sense to thank them as it encourages them to continue to be helpful....even if you personally feel good manners are a waste of time (although you're probably in the minority with that attitude)

  • Am new to this site, and I have been impressed with the friendly tone and helpful advice given. Takes a while to find your way around, and there is so much to look at I keep getting sidetracked, but I do try to thank anyone who's post I have read and found of help or interest. Its an easy way to acknowledge the time posters have spent answering, and courtesy costs nothing. Thankyou all.
