            Hi Poppycat
First thing is my children love metroland, but they are younger than yours and I think that your kids are probably too old for it.
Secondly Anwick Gardens are definitely worth a visit if you get a nice day. Some of the Harry Potter films were made at the castle but I personally don't think that the castle is a good day out. You could pack some sandwiches and spend the whole day walking around the gardens. Tell the kids you are going to a garden and they will groan but believe me they will enjoy the day. There are lots of different water features and the kids just walk through them or stand underneath them on sunny days, they also have the biggest tree house in somewhere or other (not sure the Uk or the World).
And thirdly in my local newsagents window is an advertisement for a cottage to let in Seahouses which looked ok. I don't have the details but if you want them I will pick them up when I go to pick the kids up from school.
Hope you have a nice time.0 -

As if by magic this story appeared on the BBC website today regarding the causeway to Holy Island..... I'm surprised it's as low as 12 strandings in the year to be honest (knowing the attitude of some visitors)There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't

Walkworth Castle is good and there's a nice walk to the beach from there. Your teenagers would like shopping in the Metro centre and there's Metroland in there for amusements - can't remember what's there it's so long since I went. There's ice skating at Whitley Bay and a fancy swimming pool at Prudhoe - if they're still there. Of course if you go Whit week the Hoppings will be on the Town Moor. There're also a couple of national trust houses - one has a large collection of dolls houses - so plenty of things to do up there ( but don't tell anyone else, we're trying to keep it a secret!)0

Ahem, Honeymonster but the metro centre is not 'a pile of excrement' but a very nice place to shop (especially if you have a child in a pushchair). Loads of lovely shops, good places to eat, lots to do to entertain the kiddies(metroland, pictures and bowling) and very pleasant people shopping and having a nice time.As you so rightly point out, the car parks are always full, so you are very much in the minority in your opinions.I think you should visit the metro centre as often as possible until you learn to appreciate its loveliness. He who smiles rather than rages is always

Or there's Wet N Wild at North Shields. There's some exciting water slides in there - too scary for me and I stayed on the gentle ones

It's next to Royal Quays Outlet centre which is good for shopping bargains. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Until recently my little lad was in a pushchair - I don't think that changed my opinion at all.... I prefer shopping in a city centre with the opportunity to go out in the open air between shops as does my OHgeordielass wrote:I think you should visit the metro centre as often as possible until you learn to appreciate its loveliness.
What I always find irritating about it, is when you want to pop in for 2 things from 2 shops - you just know that they're going to be at opposite corners of the place - no opportunities for short cuts (like in a real city centre), no opportunity for fresh air. The "lovely people" that frequent the place all seem to go there with the intent of wandering across the malls in a random pattern at the slowest possible pace, until you go to walk past them and they either step right in your path and stop - or speed up....
I worked there for 12 months - I'd rather poke my eyes out with a pointy stick than voluntarily visit the place - it disagrees with me - obviously you love it - I don't

The Hoppings is in mid June, at least a couple of weeks after Whit. There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
