transfer orange contract - keep number help
my current contract has finished with orange and Ive been looking for a better deal.
Rang orange and they havnt offered me the phone I like - Nokia 5140i or 6230i but I can find it on orange from another source - e2save and a good deal (re cashback etc )
Can I transfer my current number onto the new orange contract I take out with e2save.
I know I can transfer say o2 to orange etc but can I transfer orange (old contract ) to orange new contract
cant see why orange cant give me the same deal as e2save but they wont budge and it will cost me another £10 a month to get the phone I want with my current orange contract

weaver - you cannot transfer from Orange to Orange, the same as all networks will not let you transfer your number between contracts on the same network (don't know why - seems daft to me!).
You will need to get a sim card PAYG for another network, transfer from Orange to that company and when it has come through, transfer it back.
There are free offers come up all the time - Easymobile has a free offer on at the moment:#

I haven't used but they seem to be saying the right things.
You could also leave a message on your old number telling people of your new number, or text everyone your new number, but personally, I transfer my number round and am willing to make the effort (last contract went Orange - Tmobile - Orange, current contract has gone Orange to o2, as o2 offer calls and texts).
Porting process takes 7 working days approximately (from say Orange to T mobile) and will take 7 days to come back again - check though as some networks may have a minimum period that you have to stay with them.
Good luck

you can't transfer a number from an old contract to new on on same network.
you would have to port to a different PAYG network then port it back again into orange0 -

Easy mobile charge you £5 to port out, so probably better to avoid them, and charge you between 40p and £1 each time you top up should you decide to use it!0 -
Good point - sneakily they do not mention this on their site - they say they don't charge transferring in, they indicate others may, they say that they don't have a minimum period and you can transfer out, but no mention of the £5 penalty!
If there are no free offers, you should be able to get one fairly cheap.

Thanks everyone - never thought of doing it this way round it.
BUT
Im on monthly with orange at moment can I therefore transfer to PAYG on another sim card ( have some 02 ones already) then transfer the PAYG back to the monthly contract.
A bit long winded but in long run dont think its that much hassle and easy way to keep a numberThanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -

No, to be able to transfer you must be at the end of your contract, or be prepared to pay until the end of it. Orange will then send you a new PAYG SIM, or they will simply make your existing SIM PAYG. At that point you can port the number onto another network, and then back again.
Easiest is to let your contract lapse into PAYG with Orange. Then you can port at will.
What you cannot do is stay on Orange in the way you suggest. Your number will have to be ported off of the Orange network and then back onto it. Unless, of course, you do an upgrade deal directly with Orange, in which case you will not have to port at all. They would simply send you a new handset. But this probably will not be the most cost-effective solution.0 -
Already at end of contract so should be be able to convert to PAYG and then port to another network etc
Thanks for all your help everyone.
Thought Orange had me cornered on this problem - but from past experience should have known MSEs would have a way round the problem. Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -
