Setting up standing order to HSBC mastercard?

Hi,
Just got my HSBC credit card and bal transferred funds. They sent me a direct debit mandate to complete. However, I would rather set up a standing order from my bank account and manage the whole lot online myself.

I went into our local branch yesterday to ask for the details of their card services collection account, ie sort code and account number. She said it was my card number. I said it wasnt.....thats the reference.
She gave me a paying in slip which had no printed information on except the first 2 digits of the sortcode which were 42, she said she didnt know what the account details were.
She then put me on the phone to an enquiry line at a call center who said, eventually, that it was sort code 40-42-46, account number 99009787, with my card number as the reference. This does not match the details on the back of the paying in slip which are 42-98-02 for HSBC mastercard.

Has anyone made an electronic payment to HSBC mastercard other than by direct debit? If so would you let me know the correct sort code and account number please. I have serious doubts as to whether the gentleman on the end of the phone understood me as I had great difficulty in understanding him, so I'm still not convinced that this is the correct information.

If you are planning to pay the balance in full each month or the minimum payment if you are stoozing, then a direct debit will be much more efficient and less risky than standing order - it is guaranteed after all.

Alternatively look at your statement online and then use internet banking to make the payment each month.

    Thanks for your speedy response.
So there is an option on the online site to make a direct payment to the card? I looked at the statement section but, as expected, it said a statement hadn't been prepared yet.
I will only be paying the minimum but may have to change the account it's paid from during the next 9mths, which is why I preferred not to go via direct debit. If I have the option on the HSBC site to make a payment from a source of my choosing this may be the better option.

I was also surprised to hear that going into the branch and paying in cash still takes 4 days to come off the card.....so where on earth are they keeping my cash for those 4 days in these days of instant technology? When I pay cash off my Lloyds TSB credit card it's taken off my balance instantly.

I am sure that Rafter meant internet banking for your current account.
  • I rang them for their account number last week so that i could set up a standing order also.

    I was given the details

    Acc no 29004734

Sort code 40-42-46 (this was different to the paying in slip)

Ref ************** (your credit card number)

It's due to go out of my bank account tomorrow,so i will be checking anyway.

Sorry folks, I should have said, I dont have an HSBC current account, just the credit card, and I was looking to make a payment directly to the card from my Lloyds Tsb current account.

The statement should give you information of the sort code and account number to pay into. This is not necessarily the same as the sort code and account number on the bank giro credit. It should say something like "If you're paying using Internet Banking" and give you the details there.

There's a table on the back of my March 2008 statement:
For HSBC Mastercard (Begins 543460) the account number is 29004734
For HSBC Visa (Begins 454638) the account number is 09003649
For Gold Visa (Begins 494120) the account number is 69005161
For all these the sort code for standing orders is 40 42 46.

That's very nice of you, and I don't mean to be rude... but you're around 2 and a half years late ;)
