We own a house that is now mortgage free. I was wondering how i might go about getting a photocopy of the title deeds. I don't need the original, just a copy will do. Would they give me a copy if i just walked into the bank that has them and ask? Also would they charge me? Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

You are entitled to have the deeds to your house whether you have a morgage or not. If your sure your bank holds them, then ask for them it should not be a problem.0

I don't know anything about how the bank will deal with this but you can
Buy them off the Land Registry website, £3 for deeds £3 for the plan.0 -
What makes you think any old bank would have a copy of your title deeds?
Contact the Land registry. I think they'll charge £3 for a copy."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

If you have owned the house for quite some time and have not had any dealings with the house in recent years there is a good chance that the property remains unregistered and so will be held by the Bank/Building Society where your mortgage was held. If you have recently received a letter confirming that your mortgage is now paid up then contact the number on their letter to ascertain the whereabouts of the original Deeds. They will normally be at that Lender's Head Office and they should provide copies to you for a fee
If you bought the house, or remortgaged in recent years, then the property will be registered at the Land Registry and a copy of the title document can be obtained from their website.0 -
Thanks for all your help. I checked the land registry website. I will just download a copy there. Thanks for your help.0

Make sure it is the gov.uk site as there are one or two others that appear in sponsored links etc on Google that charge an extra £20 or so for getting what you can get from the Land Registry itself for £3/£6.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -

Yeah lol. funny you should say that cos i almost fell for aswell. Then i thought i 'll the other links and see if they're cheaper and got the £3 one. I wasn't gonna pay £20 plus £3 VAT and then another £3 for something worth £3.0 -
i have just been to this site (land registry) and typed in the address of a property im buying, it came up ok, also it came up as a garage at the same address? the property im buying has no garage... or.... has it? estate agents said no garage.
for anyone who knows abit more of the site the property is number 55 postcode lu7 4rt0 -
Garage at the same address but not belonging to the house - looks like someone's sold it separately. If you see when and find out how much they paid for the house & garage and then how much they sold the garage for you could reduce your own offer maybe...0

bought the title deeds details for £3, bit confusing really. but does say it was sold in 2006 for 16k.copied it below. will enquire about it tomorrow with my solicitors. the property wasnt advertised as with a garage so guess theres no point reducing my offer so far into the process.Title Number : BD236534Lender(s) : None
