A and L bank charges

I have just had a read on the bank charges illegal thread and i am slightly confused. We (meaning my husband) used to get paid weekly, most weeks on pay day our online bank account would show that we had gone over the agreed limit and at the end of each month we would have a charge for going over the agreed overdraft, even though we had actually got money in there. We did question this but we were told that because the money wasn't physically in the bank then we get charged. We now get paid monthy but we cannot take any cash out on pay day as it would show up as being over the agreed overdraft and again, another charge.
Could we claim this money back? They have done it to us for years if ever we take cash out on pay day.
Thanks for any help.

Oh A&L are a nightmare.. I had the same issues with the and have switched to First Direct and account is being closed on 15th. Saying that.. they waived 2 sets of charges.. but the other 2 have hindered my Credit File.. I'm not happy with them!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

I am in the process of making A&L close my accounts with them because I find them staggeringly arrogant and they seem to have no perception of the value a customer has for them.
I called them last Monday to say I had changed my mind on how much I wanted to pay into my A&L Regular Saver and wanted to pay in more than I originally said. The first payment is (would have been, now!) not due until February 26th, so oodles of time to change a couple of digits on a standing order mandate.
They said I can't change it. When I kept asking why not, they said it's because I had made a mistake, and customer mistakes could not be corrected. I verified with them that it wasn't some sort of silly computer restriction that won't allow them to change the amount - no, they said, it was not. The amount can be updated "because we must be able to update it if the bank makes an error".
Let me see if I got this right: if the bank makes an error, it can be corrected, but if the customer does, it can't? YEP, that's right, they said. They told me this TWICE.
Stuff the sign-up incentives/referral money, the Reguar Saver and the 5% interest rate on the current account - I am not going to deal with a bank with this sort of antiquated attitude!0
