Orange VAT adjustment
Comments
-
If they can put a new system in place to take the extra VAT they should have been able to put it back the way it was for customers. Instead they're skimming off the interest on pay as you go customers for a year. This is clearly deliberate, especially when you consider many people won't bother phoning them and wasting a 25p call.
I've now moved to three on two phones and have free Skype and MSN calls/messages and 100 minutes for £10, my fiancee moved off her contract because of this and my parents are also considering moving (they have also been using Skype for a while since BT started their "admin" charge) and we also have friends now moving.
It now costs less 10p for me to call an Orange phone, whereas Orange to Orange (payg) was costing me 15p!!! This was all on a £10 top up. Orange will only realise this was a bad move once it hits their bottom line so I hope this info benefits others. BTW ironically 3 phones default to using Orange's network when it isn't available.
More of this rant on my blog. :j

I have just sent the following to Orange:
I think you are acting illegally.
Please refer my protest to your legal department.
You are NOT listening to your customers as you say below - you are clearly ignoring us.
I insist on receiving my vat refund as a cash adjustment on my top up, failing which I shall take further action through my member of parliament. It's maybe only 25p but as you say below, "in these difficult times, every penny helps" - well I'd like 25 of them added to my credit please. I will be topping up shortly. (£10) and expect £10.25 to appear in my credit.
Thank you

You can call it illegal all you want, Does not make it actually illegal, They woudnt be doing it if it was illegal would they?, And I agree with MRC, Your attitude towards them did stink.0 -

Thanks for your opinion. To be honest, I don't think you've read all the above or you'd know I'd acknowledged the legality of what they are doing - it's the ethics I question. You'd also see that many people agree with my "attitude" and we have every reason to dispute Orange's actions.
You'd also find that Orange have conceeded our "right" to get the credit back so I think that justifies my stance. I believe I was polite in my firm correspondence and merely quoted back to them their own text. I trust your response will be equally informed and polite.0
