It is still under warrenty!!!
I suppose it's going to take weeks and weeks for them to sort it - anyone know roughly how long these things normally take?"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Bit of a long shot, but power up and after 3 mins or so keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds. Then power up again:idea:0

It sounds like a problem I had with my HP laptop, luckily mine was under warranty too and it was collected and returned, fixed, within 10 days.
If I remember right, it was something to do with the system board breaking and they had to restore the laptop and do something with the memory??
Anyway, when I got it back it worked and everything was still on the laptop that I had saved to it.0 -
At work we normally ring them, they'll go through the usual 'take the battery out and power on' spiel. Then they'll get someone out to us in the next 2 days or 3 days. It depends if they will come to you to fix it or if you need to send it off. If you need to send it off I can imagine it taking a good week or two yes.
Maybe use that female voice of yours to pursuade them to come round and fix it?This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -

I've got the flu at the moment so I think they'd hear my voice and run a mile.
Is it worth getting everything off the hard drive before I send it anywhere? Just in case? Got loads of photos and documents that I've not backed up."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Definitely back up if possible. Have you got another computer you can put this HDD into to get the files off it?
Another possibility would be to take the HDD out when you send it to them. If its a knackered system board like I think they won't need the HDD in it. Ask them when you ring up though and they will be able to tell you more than I can. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0
