We will agree to differ.
I think this link explains why we will never agree

I have read Jeffrey Sachs book "The End of Poverty" suggesting "one last push" could solve the world's problem of always playing "catch up". It did not happen, nobody is prepared to pour even more money into Africa; though somehow we can find that sort of money to replace the money that went to "money heaven" in the credit crunch.
So how many thousands of pounds are you prepared to spend of other peoples' resources rescuing defective foetuses, for a brain damaged life in a wheelchair - Just because medical science can now do it?
Similarly at the other end of our life span, how many times will you put someone onto a drip/blood transfusion to wring another 3 months of life out of them?
Do their wishes make any difference to your decision?
If they are deranged, does that make any difference to your decision?
Would you put them on "soma" if that stopped them from crying one moment and attacking their relatives the next?
Doctors in reality make these decisions every day; but the process is shrouded in fudge and humbug; and we do not want to "scare the horses" do we..0 -

The pensioner's bus pass is really useful and is probably almost self funding as it keeps the roads freer for Mr Business man to drive about at 80 MPH in his new gas guzzler.

Only once have I had to stand and obviously I don't travel in the rush hours, if I can avoid it. (Receptionists: please reserve first and last appointments for those who think their time is very valuable and who can afford full prices).
The winter fuel allowance may be self funding because pensioners turn off their heating, NOT because they are poor but because they do not know how long they will live! This winter will be extra bad as the "credit crunch" has taken at least 50% off pensioners' interest on their savings and devalued the currency 30%; increasing their fear of the future.
However sitting about, verging on hypothermia, means that thickening blood and lack of muscle stimulation, creates heart attacks and strokes.
These "victims" then get rushed to hospital and patched up. The relatives get asked the magic question "is she self funding" (4 times out of 5 it is a "she") and the now impaired human being is discharged onto the the community or into the care of their relatives (who are often already pensioners).
If 300 GBP stops that then it is money well spent. Unfortunately it may well be "saved".
I would rather see it spent on hands-on insulation of ALL this country's inadequate housing up to Scandinavian standards (That should take a couple of months off the heating season here in warm wet & damp UK.)
Harry.
No offence, if you refer to the original post you see that I am talking about Millionaires receiving it while lay on a beach in Barbados circa 30c :rotfl: I am totally happy that pensioners should be kept warm if they need it.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Impotence or Erectile Dysfunction is a consistent inability to sustain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. It can be a total inability to achieve an erection, an inconsistent ability to do so or a tendency to sustain only brief erection.
Impotence usually has a physical cause, such as disease, injury, or drug side-effects. Any disorder that impairs blood flow in the penis has the potential to cause impotence. It rises with age. About 5 percent of men at the age of 40 and between 15 and 25 percent of men at the age of 65 experience impotence.
Types of impotence
There are various types of impotence, such as Arteriogenic impotence, Venogenic impotence, Neurogenic impotence, Endocrinologic impotence, Psychogenic impotence, etc.
Arteriogenic Impotence: The arteries supplying blood to the penis fail to bring in sufficient blood to the penis when they narrow resulting in erectile dysfunction. Diabetic and high blood pressure patients are prone to it. It mostly occurs in elderly men. It is caused due to common injuries that go unnoticed due to ignorance. This is most commonly seen in men who ride bicycles for extended period of time.
Venogenic Impotence: The veins of the penis close down in a normal individual during erection. This hardens the penis assisting a complete erection. But when the veins leak blood, the penis fails to sustain an erection. This is called Venogenic impotence. Around 30% to 70% of total impotence cases are of this type.
Neurogenic Impotence: An injury to the back or other nerves related to the penis can cause Neurogenic impotence. Many operations on the rectum, prostrate, urethra, spine and urinary bladder are performed for improving the performance.
Endocrinologic Impotence: Endocrinologic impotence occurs due to an imbalance of sex hormones in the blood stream. Nearly 5% to 10% of men suffer from Endocrinologic impotence.
Psychogenic Impotence: Impotence at times can occur due to some sort of psychological complications. In such cases, there will be no physical factors accompanying erectile dysfunction. This state of impotence is called psychogenic impotence.
How to tackle Impotence?
Through Generic Drugs:
Impotence can be met successfully with the use of generic drugs which are the replicas of the much expensive prescription drugs. These drugs allow more blood flow to the penis. As more blood flow into it and less flows out, the arteries in the penis enlarge which results in an erection.
One has to be mentally prepared to have sex before taking generic drugs such as Kamagra,Caverta,Generic Levitra,Zenegra,Silagra etc. Because the effect of the pill starts only when one gets sexually stimulated. The erection that one gets after consuming generic drugs sustains for 4 hours. It means 4 hours long sexual pleasure.
This way or that, impotence can be tackled. Do exercises or meet your doctor to provide you with the right dose of generic drug which is a much easier and reasonable option. And enjoy an exciting sex life.
Fab. That should help the growing population debate nicely.

Hi again Harryhound,
Thanks for your previous link: as you say, we'll never agree, as I found nothing objectionable in the article. With reference to your last post, what would you suggest? Throwing the child to the dogs instead? Marcheline0 -

You can be impotent and still reproduce. I won't go into details here.
And you can be potent and not be able to reproduce - like most men with a vasectomy.
I think you're confusing impotence and infertility!0 -

welcome to labours Britain. Where even the Poles are heading back to Poland because its so depressingly bad and unfair here.
Stop taxing me to give to scum!!
I don't mind paying taxes to help me, and other tax payers ie street lights, defence, rubbish collections, police.
But not 190 free quid to little slappers who get up the duff. Not for 5 bedroon council houses, when I can only afford a house for 2 kids.
No one NO ONE who doesn't work should have more than anyone who does*
unless they are genuinely to disabled to work. that means the bad back brigade and the depressed brigade can get back to work. lazy scum. who cares if you are depressed. I ain't happy, but I work.
The saddest thing about this thread is the amount of thanks this post got.Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind. - Albert Einstein.
