Are MBNA still allowing a renewal of 0%?

Options
It was suggested in a thread recently that MBNA have stopped allowing a renewal of 0% when the term is up & the card paid off. Has anyone squeezed a longer term out of them recently? :-/

I had a 0% period that came to an end on 1st Dec. My balance was cleared on 30th Nov. NB this was an aditional 6 months they'd offered me as soon as my initial 9 months had ended.

Then on Friday I had 2 calls from MBNA. Annoyingly I wasn't at home at the time of either call so I don't know if they were calling to offer me something else or not but I suspect they were bearing in mind the close proximity of the calls to me paying off my balance.

If the call back with an offer I'll post info here

I read a post on the Motley Fool credit card discussion board at the weekend where someone reported getting an extension last week. I had mine extended a couple of months ago too.

Do you have to pay your balance off first? Or is it possible to get a 0% extension without paying off your balance?
  • Hiya Smitty

We have always had to pay the balance off first..

My last was on 4th Dec and the guy on the phone said

"of course you can get another 6mnths"

but would mbna charge a bt fee for the additional 0% transfer?
  • Yep, still offering 0% extensions. Got two today until June 2005 - Abbey and Alliance & Leicester (both operated by MBNA, I think). I had just had 6 months, completely cleared balance last week and rang today to ask for an extension. Got it and there was no balance transfer fee. Plus I could transfer straight into my current account. The person I spoke to said the reason there would be no BT fee is because I was still within my original promotional period (even though only by a few days!). Thank you. MBNA! ;D Good luck to everyone else.
