If I wasn't a nutjob with a passion for modifying cars, I'd lease all the time.

http://www.contracthireandleasing.com/ I check up on there quite often. Some cracking deals come up. 1 year to go on my impreza though! (until MOT time and I get bored)

Thanks all for some great advice! Semperfi, you are just a nut job full stop ;):D

Thanks to those who suggest leasing, I will look into that.

Scuttsy, thanks for all that. There is a final payment and I was going to check it was like the ford options and the car can be used as deposit on a new one, however the £6K left to pay will still be a lot less than current 3 year old Audi which seem to be advertised at around 10-12k, so may be worth the risk. But I will bear all that in mind.

Good news for me is my local garage which looks after my audi has asked that I approach them and they will better any price offered as px by Audi. Basically as they have looked after it for the past 3 years they are keen to buy it for their used cars sales site. So if Audi are a bit lukewarm I have backup plan.

I am a bit wary of selling privatly as never done that, and my work noticeboard is stuffed with cars for sale.

Going to test drive the A3 tomorow (learnt my lesson by thinking new version is the same as the old version with the Punto many years ago!) I am looking at the 1.6 but as I have the 1.8 am I going to be disappointed??? Any intelligent questions I should ask (rather than my normal, 'ohh its shiney' reaction:o :o )

Audis are now scoring very low in customer satisfaction/reliability surveys, as are the whole VW group. Something is not quite up to scratch on the newer models.

If you're really set on one, however, have you considered the SEAT Leon or VW Golf - both with the same engines and built on the same platforms as the A3, but probably higher specced and almost certainly cheaper.

I have never really understood the appeal of Audis to be honest, when practically the same cars are available from other VAG group companies for less money.

5.5% is a good rate of interest, but you will lose a tonne in depreciation. I bought my SEAT Leon when it was 4 months old with 2,000 miles on it (it was an ex press demonstrator car so was in above average condition) and saved £3k on the price of the new one. I also bought it on a 0% credit card to avoid paying interest.

If you do look at used ones, make sure their cambelts have been changed to schedule as this is a real weakness in VAG group engines.

    Hi Julz,

Go to the main menu of threads for 'Motoring & Public Transport'. Scroll down the page to the bottom of all the thread titles, and you'll see a blue/grey button at the bottom left 'New Thread'.

Click on that, and it will open a new box to type into, and you can put in a title at the top, and that will open a brand new thread, but in this section of the Forum Boards, where you can get specific answers to your question.

Hope that helps, and Welcome to the site! :hello:

  • We've just ordered a new A3 on the PCP finance (5.5%). Needed a 5 door car for exactly the same reasons.

Have got the 1.4TSI Sport for efficiency (and not bad performance either).

Can I just advise to haggle - the list price for the one we got was £19.5k (before the VAT cut but including metallic paint) we got it for £17.5k with free GAP insurance.

We much preferred the Audi interior to that of the Golf and also the new shape.
