Dead car clamped for lack of Car Tax
Hi,
Apologies if anything like this has already been posted, I have had a quick search but couldnt find anything.
An old banger of mine expired its tax and MOT. I had it parked in front of the house. The brakes siezed and I couldnt move it onto the drive to enable me to declare it SORN, I couldn't TAX the car as there was no way to get it thru its MOT or drive it to a test centre, I also couldnt drive it to a scrap yard. As I live well out in the sticks the nearest scrap companies were quoting me a fortune to come and collect it (which I couldnt/cant afford).
Anyway it has now been officially clamped due to its lack of TAX. I have contacted the DVLA and the could only give me the number of a wheel clampers helpline, which was closed. The car is due to be towed tomorrow. This in itself isnt a problem as it saves me the job , however the charges of £360 plus £21 a day until the bill is paid is worrying. There is no-way I can cover this. I have a replacement car which I use and is taxed and MOT'd so I am hoping this shows Im not in the habit of dodging my road tax. I am perfectly willing to pay the back tax to the DVLA but what are the repercussions likely from the NCP who clamped and will tow the car on the DVLA's behalf ? Am I gonna end up incourt 6 months from nowfacing a bill of £4000 etc ? Can I expect them to take the car as part payment etc.
I am also worried about the clampers harrassing my elderly parents when they turn up whilst I am at work.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Think your stuffed mate.
Clampers will get you and DVLA will fine you. You need to find out what happens if you don't pay the clamping/towing fee.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon.0 -
you did the crime, pay the fine
No one will buy the "brakes freezed"
do you not have break down cover?0 -
a chap with a hammer would free the brakes off then it could be driven on to the driveway.
or could it not be driven through the seized brake enough to get it on to the drive?
or could it not be towed or pushed or lifted on to dollys and pushed.
poor excuses im afraid....work permit granted!0 -

I suspect the OP wanted advice from someone who knows about these things, rather than opinions.0 -

What advice can you give someone who knew they were doing wrong but done it anyway?
