Oh thanks for that. Will have to have a look. Wonder if they will be the same make or if they are a universal fit:confused: . I can't remember the make of mine but I think I'll recognise the box. They must have a problem with the plastic splitting. Don't suppose you noticed the price?

  • Brought mini greenhouse from Wilkinsons last year about £12 ish - no problems - still in one piece and working well - you can also buy fleece covers for them for about £9 - worth it especially with this weather!
Tip if you work in an office - pot up a few seeds in a pot and take them in - I have jacaranda seeds and it is the best place to germinate them - added to that I don't pay for the heating - once germinated and study - take them home.

How much are they charging? We bought two last year and they ripped at the zip almost immeadiately aswell. It all seemed very expensive in the end for the actual veg we ended up with. It was the first year we had grown anything ourselves and I did enjoy it but was a bit discouraged with the results.

I bought one of these 'greenhouses' last year. After seeing how many people had said on forums about the covers going I paid an extra £5 and got the heavy duty/ extra thick plastic cover - it's almost rubbery and isn't totally clear (has strengthening stictched in it, if I remember) These covers are sold separately in garden centres too and well worth (imho) the extra money - mine has been out all year and is still totally intact. May well invest in another one this year, as plan to grow even more things (will start off chillis indoors later this month)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Ok, I am a complete beginner; can I dry out the seeds from my pointed peppers and plant those and, if so, can I just plant them up in egg boxes, keep them in the conservatory and wait until they germinate?? Is it really as easy as that??
    That's Numberwang!
  • im a gardening novice - i got seeds for peppers, toms, cucumbers, courgettes & onions, when should i plant each of them - i understand this is called sowing but i really am such a novice that im not 100% sure sowing the seeds is actually putting them in the ground!!! i have a mini £14.99 greenhouse type thing, is it too early to plant them in pot in the greenhouse or will the cold weather kill of all my seeds?

    sorry for being so clueless!

  • im no expert but i should imagine its to cold for the plastic greenhouse at the mo ( i have one in my garden) but you could plant some and put in your window sills, im planing on doing this this week, i have a nice size porch which gets alot of light just a bit cold so im going to put a little radiator in there and put up some shelving to start my seeds off, ill probably then cover my veg patches with some polythene to warm the ground ready for planting out. x
One day I will live in a cabin in the woods

Yes tak ethe seeds from them but I would put them in the airing cupboard as they like a warmer temp to germinate
Just call me Nodwah the thread killer
  • I get very annoyed if I go to the trouble of swing seeds in compost and they don't germinate, so I put just about everything into a plastic bag with some damp kitchen paper or rag and keep it in the airing cupboard. As soon as a root shows, I gently put them into compost. I have so many old seed packets I do not want to throw away that this is an automatic test for viability. You have to look at them every day or the fastest ones get their roots tangled up. Rocket is amazingly fast - I grow it in gutters at this time of year to have some early leaves for salads. Lettuce is rather fiddly, but worth it to get them going early.
