    Wow!

You can name a star for your Valentine.
This has to be the most romantic pressie for under £15.

The certificate is complete with a genuine Swarovski Crystal to show where the star is on the star chart. You also get to personalise it with your own message of luuurve!

    Very nice.

This thread is now six pages long and you have posted the same message three times. You wouldn't by any chance have some sort of interest in this company/website would you?

I thought advertising on here was against the rules....

If I gave my husband some of the mushy things listed on here, I think he'd run a mile. So would I, come to that!

I'll never understand why anybody over the age of 7 would actually want any of those yucky cutesy teddy bears...let alone a grown man. And don't get me started on those terrible Love Songs type CDs and the 'rom-com' DVDs.
Someone tell me what on earth you do with a silver Rolo or Loveheart? Does it end up collecting dust somewhere?

Valentines Day has been made so forced and artificial now. It's almost like " OK here's your quota of love and romance for the year all in one day....now let's get back to being normal".

    :T :T :T :T :T :T

    Amen to that!

I really really REALLY don't like those silver love heart and rolos - tack city

I'm staying in for a nice meal with my OH, some quality ;) time......and some flowers hopefuly........but that's only because I love them anyway.......

If the only time he was romantic and lovely was Valentines, I would not be impressed!

I'm running the risk of turning this into an anti-valentines thread but I completely agree with the whole thing about only showing romance once a year, and the commercial aspect of it all!!

Saying that, I wouldn't turn the opportunity to be spoilt for an evening down, my OH is not too good with romance & spoiling me etc.... and i'd be lucky to get it one valentines day let alone the other days of the year so if it kicks him into gear (which I doubt!) then who cares!! LOL!!

But really can't see me buying him a teddy or soppy present, he would probably smile nicely but then it would collect dust for years til it got thrown out - wheres the point in that!!

:D Have you coupled up lovesters forgotten us singletons? If you're single and there's someone you've got your eye on, pop into Tesco and buy a value tooth brush set (48p) you get two in white.
Keep one for yourself, and with the other tie a red ribbon through the hole in the end, and attach a gift tag with a note on it with your phone number. Leave it in the man who's got your attention's drawer / windscreen wiper! It's a sure way to tease him and break the ice!-;)

THIS GREAT HUNT WAS ORIGINALLY STARTED IN 2006, SO SOME OF THE LINKS OR PRODUCTS MAY BE OUT OF DATE, YET MOST OF THE IDEAS ARE BUILT TO LAST.

All those choccys, roses and candlelit dinners might earn you brownie points, but they can come with a rather unromantic price tag attached.

The aim of this great hunt is to collect a database of the best ways to treat your loved-one without the two of you fighting over money til May. I want MoneySavers to share their tips on how to get the sloppiest cards, tastiest chocs and most romantic flowers, all at the best price. Even better, as the best things in life are free, please post suggestions on ways to show you care for nowt.

    Please include:

    *The treat

    *How much?

    *Where can you get it?

I realose that valentines is now over but theres mothers day, birthdays, anniversaries and xmas to come. (sorry but you can save by buying now) I went inot my local tesco and all there valentine items our half price i bought a couple of mugs that will do as pressis for friends and some socks. It may be worth looking at other retail outlets to see what they have reduced.

personaly i like the idea of someone making a card with a special photograph of the two of you inside either celebrating a special event or a holiday and with your own words and design saying how that person makes you feel when you look at that photograph. soppy i know but some women do like to be made a fuss of.
Personal gifts are free unless you want to purchase card, ribbon and perfume spray. even saying that you like her perfume and sprayingthat on the card would be nice.
finaly i heard a good idea about buyin a bottle of wine or champaine and tying a ribbon or rope around it and then placing it in the river discretly. Walking along with your loved one either propose and ask her to pull the ribbon or just share in the sunset together, having a romantic drink together.

  • A gift membership of the National Trust will enable you to take romantic strolls through 200 gardens and visit 300 of their properties for a year. They have discounted subscriptions. (No I don't have any connection with the NT - just thought it was a good idea).
I saw this and other ideas, and codes giving discounts from sellers of more trraditional Valentine gifts, on www.besthighstreet.com, on the Valentine page, but you can also go direct to the NT website.
  • Last year I got my partner a mouse mat with a photo of us both on holiday.
    Had it done at www.photomousemat.com
it was about £6 but I opted to have some text put on the mouse mat as well with a personal message ;) I received it the next day!
    She loved it.

Primark have some nice underwear sets at the moment, more tasteful and cute sets than trashy ones! The bra's are around £5ish and the knickers about are £2 or £3. Put them in a nice gift bag (Less than £1 at Card Warehouse/Card Factory) with some tissue paper (less than a pound in most shops like Woolworths, Wilkinsons etc) and you have a really nice present for £10 or less :)

  • I buy all my candles in charity shops as you get usually better quality stuff at cheaper prices and youre benefitting a charity and saving waste. Especially in the few months after Xmas, there are lots of lovely bits like candles and boxed sets of smellies(not all charity shops do smellies so the ones that do are usually very cheap) and nice picture frames and often little bits like bracelets and vases which probably cost 2 or 3 times as much originally.

I came home a few years ago on Vals day and my partner had put candles all the way up the stairs and all around the flat and cooked my fav dinner. The effort and the wow romance factor of all the candles, and scrummy dinner, is what i remember.

Pick up some nice smellies and run your lover a bath surrounded with more candles and a good massage and id say youre onto a winner, the best gift you can give someone is time as its our most precious commodity. Effort/time and doing something that you wouldnt normally do will impress more than just a bouquet or chocs.

I dressed up in a sexy black dress and undies, candles everywhere and cooked dinner for my ex last year and he was so touched, noone had ever done anything like that before for him so it works for guys too.

ps. Be careful with candles, burning the place down wont impress! Tea lights must be placed on a suitable surface they are very dangerous on their own.(woolies, tesco and ikea do little glass holders for about 25p-1£)

Other ideas; romantic/naughty notes in the purse/wallet, nice pic of u both in a frame (again i got a gorgeous one in a charity shop last week for 50p which originally cost about £5), plants in nice containers-my friend used to buy handbags from charity shops and put plants in them and they looked amazing.

    Happy St Vals
