Your a hard bunch of people.

We are a disillusioned bunch of people. You can't feel sorry for people who join Ebay, bid on your stuff, have no idea how anything works and make you lose your fees. I have spent many hours talking buyers through procedures only to be rewarded with poor communication and lost fees, just because they pressed the wrong button, twice. So now they get the tough response. Although it does make me feel bad.

But I don't want to block foreign bidders. Most of them are human enough. And this trend has only started for me this year. Which does make you wonder
This isn't a new scam starting is it? :(

    However little sense it makes...

Why not do the neighborly thing and do a mutual agreed not to see and that way you get all your fees back from EBay.

You the seller is happy and the buyer (who made a mistake) does not get punished with a NPB on his account.

No one can bid accidentally on an auction, whatever they say. I agree with the other posts in that just recently I have been plagued by people bidding 'accidentally' or just ignoring me entirely, and I don't see why I should pick up the costs for their mistake. I had a buyer recently BIN one of my items and then ignore me. When I filed for NPB he emailed me and said he couldn't have bought the item as he was really just browsing and he was sure he never confirmed his bid or even clicked on buy. I suggested he contacted ebay and explained that their system allowed him to bid just by logging into ebay, and as I never heard back from him, nor did he ever officially respond the the NPB dispute I closed the dispute and have negged him.

I would never ever opt for a mutual as if the buyer is incapable of buying on ebay without messing up, he is unlikely to be able to leave the mutual alone and I risk losing my fees due to further incompetence by the bidder.

Yes it seems hard but my ebay fees are very high and I shouldn't have to pay for the mistakes of others. I already have to pick up the listing fees for the items that are won but not paid for.

Once the NPB procedure has been finalised isn't it possible to re-list for free?

Remind me never to buy off you lot and to make sure "Whats your eBay usernames again" :)

It's not about being hard but we are forever reading on here about people going through the mutual option and the buyer stinging them for doing it.

We are all nice sellers (and buyers) on this site, i would be thankful if my seller turned out to be a MSE'er :)

Supposedly yes, but a couple of times I've done this i have not had the fees returned when the item sold on the second attempt. Also, you only get basic listing fees back, you have to pay again for gallery and all other extras regardless of whether it resells or not.

Sounds like buyer's remorse to me! Americans just assume that anything for sale on eBay is in America! I've heard some buyers say "where is the UK? And what is a £?!"

You can block overseas bidders here:
    http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?BuyerBlockPreferences
as well as those with unpaid item strikes and negative f/b (very useful)

My boss is american and he laughs at how only about 70% of americans own passports and how they don't know any geography outside the usa. :rotfl:

  • I have done the "mutual" thing before with a prospective buyer who bid for an item then didn't want it, and the bidder was nice and polite and didn't give me any problems, but I'm wary of doing it again (should the situation recur) since I've read so many tales of bidders then saying they still want to buy the item, thus leaving the seller out of pocket. I think communication is important; some buyers seem to be under the misapprehension that they will be charged the refunded fees.
I'd probably still do a mutual with a polite and friendly customer if I'd sent them a message explaining about the process and I was confident they were Ok with it, but maybe I'm too soft!

I had a UK buyer who refused to complete (been given a similar item after bidding). I firmly, but politely reminded her of the wording when you bid stating that this is a contract and you commit to pay if successful. The buyer didn't respond.

No problem with the NPB process. After I left negative feedback, she tried to retaliate. How small can you get? Some people just don't like being told that they are in the wrong. But eBay now won't allow feedback scores from buyers who don't participate in the NPB process.

So, OP - follow the NPB process. I wouldn't go down the mutual agreement route unless you really have agreed not to supply.
