    ooooops no, not yet:o

I'm not good at that. I have had a chat with my accountant about it and we are making various proposals. I need to keep throwing as much money at them as poss though in the meantime.

    Thanks though xx

    Hi Lemma
I've only just seen this thread but I so relate to it - most of my debt problem is due to tax, I am still paying accumulated tax bills from 7 or 8 years ago - grrrrrrr. This year I rang HMRC and they were really fine about accepting instalments. There's a special phone number set up for self-employed people struggling to pay their tax bills this year. If your accountant hasn't got it I can have a hunt through my papers if you like.

So sorry to hear about your DH - what an awful situation. Hugs to you.

Other than MBNA ALL my debt is back tax. I'm not very good at talking to people about issues like this cos I get scared they will say no. Stupid I know. I owe £1000's. I will get it cracked eventually.

    Thanks honey xx

Lemma, please don't be scared of the tax man. They are no longer the scarey people they once were. They will be patient with you as long as you are open and honest with them....

    read this link http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/pbr2008/business-payment.htm

I'm not good at talking to HMRC either - but it's not just you and me in difficulties this year and they have set up a whole call centre for people who can't pay their tax.

I owed 8k this January, I rang them up and they just asked straight out 'how do you want to pay?'. I hadn't even thought of a plan but I blurted out that I'd pay in 8 monthly instalments and they immediately said yes. I subsequently rang up and changed the arrangement and they were cool about that too. It's worth a call! Or maybe your accountant would do it.

Good luck anyway - I'm very impressed by your daily payments.

Yes, but apparently I can't. Its something to do with the profession i am in or something. But we are talking with them..well, my husband is and we will get it sorted one way or another.

I can deal very well with other people's life changing problems but i cannot deal with my own. Crap that!

thanks to you all for your support.

We have also had some more news about my husbands condition.

It is genetic and hereditary. Our children each have a 1 in 2 chance of developing it. It is progressive but the speed of progression will be assessed over time. He will be kept regularly under review by the neurologist.

We are still going to carry on as normal. Take one day at a time x

Sorry to read the additional news about your OH. Although not exactly ideal, at least by knowing the chances of it being passed on, you can all make informed decisions......although ignorance is sometimes bliss, we all know the harm burying our heads in the sand does, and sometimes dealing with the hard stuff is actually easier once you are dealing with it, than not dealing with it.

I'm not sure if I am waffling, or making any sense at all, but I know what I mean! And of course, I do appreciate that your family's situation is rather different than avoiding opening the letters from the bank.....

Good luck with getting that repayment plan sorted with HMRC.......don't forget to let us know what you agree - it will be a weight off your mind once it is set out, I am sure.

hi Lemma - i am not even going to begin to pretend to know anything about tax matters, but wanted to offer some kinda hugs/support re the family situation... must be such a hard thing to deal with, especially the unknown aspects more than anything........

((hugs)) and positive thoughts for you n yours...

it seems you are doing well on the payments to HMRC, i just hope they are reasonable about payment plan of some kind, as you really don't want to be investing all your energies into repaying tax when you should be supporting your family and your needs....
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....
