Dear Money savers.....

I have unexpectedly found myself living alone.......... Boyf moved out on friday.

Althought I have always paid the lions share of the bills etc... (that is another story) He did contribute £320 per month to the income.....

Have changed car insurence, and applied for single person discount on council tax, was wondering if you have any other money saving tips for me?????

Also looking for help regarding what a food budget would look like for one person?????

I have a full freezer and a pretty healthy looking fridge - so was planning to run them down a bit so that I didn't have to go food shopping for a little while and maybe build up a little bit of a cash reserve this way.

All tips advise and words of sympathy welcome!

Regards

Hotti

Lots and lots of sympathy to you! Sorry to hear about it all, sorry that I can't offer much practical advice - my house is full of children so not much chance of shopping for one for a very long time!

I'm sure that lots of people on here will have some really great tips, good luck and best wishes for the future.

Make sure you are getting the best deal on your gas and electric. Also consider switching your bank account to one of the top payers (A&L/Nationwide), make sure your getting the best rate on your savings. Use a cash back credit card for your spending. Consider using Aldi/Netto/Lidl for shopping.

I'm sure others will be able to suggest some things I've missed.

Hey, that's okay! Whilst some people in the world are horrid, most people seem to be fairly caring, as demonstrated by us lovely MSEers! And that includes you too!

You'll probably be better off without him anyway ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))

Just think, you'll be able to eat all those things you love that he wasn't too fond off and no one to moan about biscuit crumbs in the bed :D

    Hi hot.chick

Sorry to hear about your relationship break up (((((hugs)))))

On weeks when I'm in every evening (or in a position to eat home-cooked food) I spend between £15 and £20, including laundry and cleaning products but not including wine (which I have a separate budget for, and order in bulk). I make my own lunches for work.

I eat extremely well though I don't have a lot of desserts. I keep costs down by seeking out reduced-to-clear meat at the supermarket which I freeze until needed. I then make meal plans based on this - and buy a lot of fresh veg to make casseroles etc. I get most of my meat bargains from Tesco and the Co-op, and fresh veg mainly from Lidl (where I also buy pasta, rice and other things Lidl does particularly well).

I have quite a good income but like to eat as well as possible for as little as possible as it frees up cash for other more interesting things :D
