Was there really any call for that? So you saw it on the news before I did. If someone else reading this thread wasn't in the loop then I'm glad I posted it again for their benefit.

Are you sure? Or is it perhaps that they can hide it better due to lower regulation and greater risk of fraud?

Even if we assume there is no financial crisis there, they will be hit by a global recession and they were being hit when fuel prices were higher.

Absolutely correct dunstoh ! Most countries in the world have been hit by the global recession, perhaps all . But that is quite different to what G.B said namely that ALL countries are affected by the BANKING CRISIS.
The two problems are entirely different.
(As for fuel prices the price is rock bottom at the moment )

in your first post you said GB said
"ALL countries around the world were suffering a banking crisis "
your last post said GB said
" that ALL countries are affected by the BANKING CRISIS."

which did he say, as the second is plausible, whereas the first is clearly wrong

Why don't you read up what the rights issue is for. It was stated on bloomberg this morning that the capital was being raised for an acquisition, I can't remember who the acquisition was of but thats definately what was reported.

The one thing that really gets me about brown is the fact that he comes on all the time and states "well our debts not as big as theres". Its not a !!!!!!!g competition. Its one of the worst justifications of a situation that any prime minister has probably stated.

I mean, say for example, we were committing genecide, we killed 10,000 and someone else killed 100,000. Just because we haven't killed as many doesn't make it right.

I have a great deal of respect for the way australia has been run. They sacrificed short term growth in order to pay off their national debt and now stand in a great position. Their interest rates were higher than ours so therefore didn't create such a debt crisis. As soon as the problems shone up, they could spend some of their surplus to provide tax breaks for their citizens.

Also, I get really annoyed when Brown compares our borrowing to Japans. Does he not realise that the last 20 years have been completely different to Japans so we are not comparable. Its hardly like Brown will compare us to zimbabwee, so why compare us to another country who have had a very different recent past to us.

Were the 2 world wars a lie in the name as they didn't involve all of the world, most countries have been effected and banks are being bailed out in a large number of countries.

    What a stupid analagy !

  • Theres resaons why some countries werent as badly hit , they had no high personal debt....those without a pot to urinate in these upturns or downturns make up the majority in se asia rather than the minority. They also dont have Nhs and Benefits at our rates if any.

These countries that escaped it for the most part are on the diminished ripples of the credit tsunami. They dont have mortgages , they work to live , and their banks never bought into the debt sales.

So much for buying into china mr rogers , the worlds manufacturer aint got any customers.

But now india that will be the next manufacturer for the world ...as long as companies have the bottle to use it for things other than telephone call centres.Them youngs scots prawns that were sent to china to get peeled will be all the better for a bit of garam masala....mm scampi tikka masala , no rice , just chips.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

He clearly said that ALL countries were suffering from a banking crisis and that was false ...and he knew it was untrue. The moral is that politicians will do anthing to protect their skins. If Australasia and S.East Asia could avoid a banking crisis so could Britain had we had a more prudent Chancellor.

I doubt that a single country in the whole world is not "suffering from a banking crisis"; however it may not be their own banking system that is in crisis, rather that of the countries around them or with which they trade.

I care less about Gordon Brown's choice of words, which as can be seen above is open to interpretation; than I do about his government taking action to lift us out of this Global mess.

The other UK political parties are not exactly coming up with bright and workable proposals are they?
