The Creative Zen Nano Plus was my second choice of an MP3 player after owning a Slimbox half-gig player for a couple of years.
What swung it was that it takes a single AAA battery whereas the Slimbox had to have a special rechargeable battery which was a PITA if it went flat at a crucial time, and the built-in FM radio is excellent.
I reckon 1Gb of music (about 18-20 CD's) is more than enough for my needs, it's solid-state so no danger of head crashes due to jogging motion and if you do get fed up with the stored music you have the radio. And they reckon you get 18 hours from one AAA...
So before y'all go rushing out to buy these other ones mentioned previously, think about your needs and the convenience of using bog-standard batteries as against internal LiOn's that need charging thru USB or a mains adaptor.

Are you suggesting a 2GB mp3 player will hold 1000 songs. No way. i have 2 mp3 players. A 256mb which holds 60 songs (roughly) which would translate into roughly 500 songs on a 2GB one. And I have a 20 GB of which 15GB is used and there is roughly 3000 songs on it, which equates to 1000 songs for 5Gb. this is all rough because some songs are longr than others e.g. some podcasts can be 60 minutes long but considered as only one mps file. But in summary NO WAYhappiness is being able to have one more drink0

Just one point that someone might be interested in. With 3000 songs I can listen to music for nearly 11 days non stop without having to repeat any songs!!!!happiness is being able to have one more drink0

I think this depends on the MP3 quality. Manufactureres always use figures based on 64kbs MP3s. But these are very poor quality and for standard 128kbs people need to divide the songs figure by half.0 -
go here for £11.99
http://www.savapoint.com/savapoint/productinfo.php?checkcookies=yes&prodid=4405&ref=froogle0111
then
pick your sd memory card from here
http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/ctl/do/search?fromform=true&siteSearchQuery=sd+card&x=0&y=0
and depending on quality your songs will range from 3/5 mb each
5mb per song = 200 songs per GB
1GB = 1024MB 1024MB / 5MB per song 128kb/per/s = 204.8 songs (allowing space for the allocation table)
or buy yor memory cards on ebay from Hong Kong - even cheaper (totaly leagal im sure) please correct me if im wrong....0 -

similarly, ARIA are shipping loads of iPod Copies (only 1Gb mind, but identical to the ipod nano) for around the £70 mark. Has capabilities to display pics & allsorts! Very tempting!
main page here: https://www.aria.co.uk (type in 'aria neo')

Just a note to everyone, be careful when looking for cheap MP3 players - particularly off Dabs.com. I bought two used 30GB HDD players, one for me and one for my girlfriend for about £65 each - I was over the moon at first as i thought this was a tremendous deal.
Less so when they turned up, one didn't work at all, and the other has a host of faults ranging from the inconvenient to the ridiculous.
After a series of e mails (after searching for ages for a complaints contact link on the website - they are proud of the fact they have no store to go to, and no telephone number!), they wanted to charge me another set of £8 delivery costs just to fix them, and when I demanded they cover this cost as the goods were DOA they refused and stated they were now out of warranty!
It seems Dabs think they don't have to comply with their legal obligations, and I'm now waiting for Trading Standards to act. Needless to say I won't be going back to Dabs, i'm most disappointed as I thought they were a reputable company.0 -
I've always worked on one 5 min song being around 5MB, of course this depends on what quaility it's recorded at (5mb = not bad quaility).
Therefore 1gig = 1000 mins = 16.5 hours = 200 songs.
If you're going away on holiday for a few weeks and like to listen to a lot of music then 1 or 2 gig is not enough. You'll need more like 10gig.
Personally though I find my tesco special at 256mb (£9.99) is perfect for me as I only use it down the gym and it's small and hangs round my neck.
I will be looking to buy something at 10gig+ but I can afford to wait another 6-12 months when they'll likely be around £100, we'll soon see......0
