when I went to Sainsburys and bought fish from the counter... I asked for the head and tail to be removed. Not for a money saving purpose, but because I'm a bit squeamish!
I did notice however, that he weighed the fish... BEFORE he cut the bits off that I didn't want.

You'd do better to keep the storks-they taste a bit like chicken! :rotfl:The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.
You ask for ADVICE not ADVISE.0 -
I always remove the rubbishy leafs off cabbage, caulis and broccoli. I have no worries about it. Its one reason why I hate buying bagged carrots or potatoes as I do like to make suree they are all ok. I select the bananas I want but fall short of peeling them.....that would be a step too far IMO.Panda xx

I was in Sainsburys recently and a member of staff (a real dragon) really let rip into a mature lady customer who was taking the stalks of the mushrooms, and touching the tomatoes .....
Funny in Cyprus the supermarkets actually leave a sharp knife tied in the fruit and vegetable display boxes for you to cut off yourselves - imagine that in this country, no best not to imagine it0 -
What on earth is wrong with brocolli stalks? I just eat them.0

My daughter used to work in Sainsbury's and they had an 'old lady' customer who regularly brought a knife with her and cut off the broccoli stems. They thought it was quite amusing and no one ever stopped her0

That's terrible - if they do that again I'd definitely complain if I were you.
Although make sure they don't try and give you the head and tail because you paid for them!

Usually you pay extra for the convenience of them been already prepared etc, so why shouldn’t you pay less for DIY preparation. I’m sure I have seen someone doing this once in one of the supermarkets near me and I think it was broccoli too.0

I too was intrigued by the thread title! I have to say its not something I have even thought about doing, i do have a good look at the fruit before I buy but thats about it. Now what else could we legally chop the bits off?Money's too tight to mention!!!0

I was under the mistaken impression that this thread was previewing the programme on Ch. 4 at 11 0'clock tonight concerning one John Wayne Bobbitt.0
