Its true that the Palomino and Thunderbird chips ran hot but of recent years the AMD's have run cooler than the P4 range. The XP2000 was available as both a Palomino core and a Throughbred - cpu-z should show which core you have. The Palomino wasn't the greatest chip and tended to run very hot - although 56 at idle is still high. The problem is knowing if the readings are accurate. What motherboard are you running?0 -
I had a 2100XP+ that ran as hot as yours. It's because it was a Palomino core which is pushed to the limit at around 2100+ so they brought out the Thoroughbred cores starting at 2100+ which ran a lot cooler.
I wouldn't worry about that temperature if yours is a Palomino core. I was only able to get it down a few degrees with a new fan and some silver grease.0 -
I've also got an Athlon XP2000 and it has always run 53-55 degrees. Never had a problem with it.0

Another XP2000 here and mine also runs between 50-60 depending on how hard its working. I spent ages trying to get the temp down with extra case fans and a new CPU fan & Heatsink but it all made very little difference. As someone else said, if its not crashing then don't worry about it!He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

sorry I haven't replied sooner. Couldn't get on the PC. Not having any problems, I was just curious about how hot it should be running. Not knowing anything about it I was worried that 55 degrees was to hot.
Thanks to everyone for the replies.0 -
Id say if you arent having problems dont worry :-) normaly if it over heats the bios will scream at you and then power down the machine, I remeber using a program called CPU Rain many years ago this seemed to cool things down a bit but only if it was running major graphics apps or rendering an autocad image. dont know if you can still find CPU rain... try google. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Hi
I've used a little program called Speedfan for a few years now, its a temperature sensor that monitors hard drive/cpu/ and it can change fan speeds.

Hope this helps0
