Abbey and Lloyds 0% BT question

Hi all!

The woman in my local branch of Abbey has just said they definitely charge a BT fee, regardless of whether the application is made online or not - i.e. you can't have fee free BTs if you apply in the branch. Has anybody else experienced this? The only 0% BT card seems to be called simply a 'Balance Transfer Credit Card'.

Secondly, the Lloyds site seems to very clearly state there is a fee on every balance transfer to the Platinum card. Has anyone else notice this?

Cheers!

Phil ;-)

  • I applied for the Lloyds card about 10 days ago after phoning them to confirm that there was no BT fee. I was verbally told that there was no fee if BTd within the first 6 weeks.
Still awaiting the card to do the BT!
  • Had exactly the same issue when applying for a Lloyds platinum card today. I called customer services who were adamant there would be no fee but the 4th page of the application stated there would be a 2% fee. I was givena name to call if there was an issue, so applied and will wait and see.

    Cheers

Have just posted this in another thread so apols to anyone who's read it. I was in a branch of Barclays today checking out ccs and they are doing 0% fee free BTs until 15 Feb (and so are HSBC, to about the same date). Not sure if you need an account with HSBC for this, didn't ask as I have an account with them. Barclaycard are offering lower of £5k or 90% of your cl as max BT and has to be within 60 days of a/c opening. I got a Lloyds TSB fee free BT a week or so ago but I did send in the paperwork about a month ago. Had to work quite hard at getting the cl up from £2k to £12 and was then allowed to BT £11,900ish

    Thanks all!

Gah! I was just going for the Lloyds Platinum. Never mind. Might have a word with their CS, but it doesn't look good, does it? Abbey too though? Double gah! ;-)
  • I went to the Abbey today to get a CC for a SBT and the woman told me there is definitely a BTF, I even asked her to check and told her that Martin said otherwise but unfortunately it didn't make any difference ...boooo
  • Hi guys,

The last time we spoke to Abbey (this Tuesday) nothing had changed in the products. However, with the increasing number of stories we are hearing that diverge from the official line, I have contacted them and directed them to this thread.

I'll let you know the response.

Just been to Abbey as opened a new account with them. They said that they def charge a balance transfer fee and so I didnt proceed with the application.

Would be interesting to find out if this is the official line as I havent had the best customer service from my local branch so wouldnt be surprised if they were wrong...

  • I applied for a Lloyd's Platinum on the 2 January at the bank, (because this site said in was free only that way) Due to a mix up had to return the next day to complete the form. Anyway to speed it up I checked on line to see if I could read about charges, in the end rang them and they confirmed no charges on line. So I did it on line. Just received my 1st bill and can confirm no charge was made, but your right the site now says 2%. CS must be the way to go and get a name.
