  • I understand trying to find out what he was on previously, but I think the priority here is to feed him some dog food, regardless of what it is, just to get some food and nutrients into him! If this old dear is in hospital and the house is locked up then getting access is going to be a problem and I doubt very much she'll be able to give a straight answer!

As long as the food given by the OP is kept the same, any upset tummy should right itself. Or you may find he's been on such a varied diet (owner may well have just bought whatever dog food was cheapest/closest to hand) that he's got a tummy made of steel :)

Im also wondering why he has lost the teeth - it would be good if you could get him to a vet for a check over?
  • Fresh tripe is a good food to put weight on dogs and its not that expensive.

First off just feed him regulary the amount of food the dog should be being fed if he were at the correct weight. If you dont notice a fifference in a week them start adding some tripe his meals.

Just dont be in a rush to get the weight on him. Get him on a good food and take it slowly - over feeding will only result in a runny bum

I wont be able to find out what food he was on before, as his previous owner isnt in a fit state to tell me and i dont fancy rooting through her bins...lol. Ive been feeding him small amounts and often at the moment. Hes also had scrambled egg, which he really enjoyed. Hes settling in so well:D

Arrrghhhh!!!! I used to feed my ferrets tripe occasionally...but i just couldnt stomache the smell !
  • Glad doggo is doing well - what is he called btw?

As for tripe - yep, yuck! but dried tripe sticks are nutritious too and very much enjoyed by dogs- and although they do stink, they are not too bad!

Adsa do some tripe sticks now which are compacted into neat little sticks, instead of them being big leathery strips - absolutely great for training as they easily snap into little bits and arent too bad to handle!

fab for putting weight on. I also feed Atora ( the blue one ) to my Rough Collie girl through the winter and just after a season, other wise she looks like a hairy coat rack.

what dry food are you feeding?

Raw tripe is good and pets at home will have it either minced, cut up or in a 400g block. It does smell, just dont get too close, lol, and dont cook it. It is also very good for their skin and coats. A good complete food with no animal derivitives. Can contain chicken etc just not the derivitives.

    Good luck.

Thanks FC...his name is Harry. Ive been feeding him on Pero working dog food. He has had terrible diarrhoea since though! Ive fed him one tin a day. Ive been wary of adding egg etc as i dont want to make it worse, it seems to happen once a day.
