Thank you for all your advice.

I’m mulling over some of the following models:

    Mira Vie 10.8KW:
    http://www.allaboutelectrics.co.uk/doc/12/vid/3444/MIRA_VIE_10_8KW_ELECTRIC_SHOWER.html

    Mira Go 9.5KW:
    MIRA-GO-9-5-kw-EBAY SELLER

    Mira Play 9.5KW

    1)

a)Which on of these models would you recommend please for value for money?

    b)Any I should AVOID?

I think I will also keep the Tap and Mixer Shower that we already have that we use with the Gas Boiler via Water Tank, but replace it with a new one.

I quite like this Contemporary Chrome Lever Style Bath/Shower Mixer for £68.49 at Argos:

If the quality is good, because of its simplicity, if that price is the going rate, I would consider the price reasonable.

    2)

a)Do you think I can buy this with confidence?

b)Can I buy something similar from elsewhere for cheaper?

    c) Or should I buy a different set, even though it may be more expensive?

Thank you for your kind time and help!

    Regards,

    Jay

We are looking at installing an electric shower as well and pretty much the same conditions as at Associate.

Can anybody tell me how expensive it is to install one or is it easy enough to do it ourselves?
We don't have one at the moment.
  • Hi Tajna

this is a job for a professional installer. You can expect to pay somewhere between £350-£500, depending on whats involved, which make/model you pick and where you are in the country.

    Thanks for reply jockster. :)
We have more important things to do first so this is just informative at the moment so we know how much roughly we need for it.
  • I am thinking about putting a shower in. I have a combi boiler. What is a thermostatic shower? I want to avoid the bit where someone turns the tap on downstairs and the water goes cold or scorches you. I think I am picking up knowledge from this thread but it would be great to clarify.
  • When I was doing my bathroom I ripped out my electric shower and put in a thermostatic shower which I got from Lidl. Cost about £20. Still running fine after at least 2 years. So mrsjanejane, I would recommend one of these, as it keeps the temperature you set it at even if a tap gets turned on, or the loo is flushed etc. The only thing you'll notice is the drop in flow.

It is possible to do it yourself but to do so you would need to have some wiring and plumbing skills. I'm not qualified in any way in either of these skills but am self taught and I can install them.

you would need to break into the cold water supply in order to provide a cold feed to the shower. You will then need to run a dedicated cable from your fuse box to the shower. The shower will require a dedicated fuse carrier, normally 45amp. In the bathroom you will need a double-pole pull cord switch in order to isolate the electric supply from the shower.
  • And unfortunately installing a new circuit falls under Part P Building Regs which requires a registered electrician to install the electrical side of things. A shower will require 10mm2 cable running to the consumer unit. The other route is to DIY it and then apply for a building control notice. This will keep everything above board and legal (and cost money).

I'm just suggesting here how it should be done properly. I hate the whole Part P thing as installing this circuit for a competent DIYer won't pose a problem (even though the 10mm2 cable is a sod to work with).

You could install a thermostatic shower even if you don't have a combi. You may need a booster pump (if you have a gravity fed system). Even this may work out cheaper than installing an electric shower.

I installed my aunts electric shower, ran the cabling etc.

Then got out an electrician to make the final connections to the fuse box and the shower, test etc.

Not sure how much he charged her as he billed her direct, but it wasn't a lot.

Would have done it all myself if it was my own property.
