Redemption mobiles.co.uk?

Hi, I'd appreciate some advice on getting my 'redemption' ie cashback from Mobiles.co.uk. I am so naive I didn't read the terms and conditions for getting
cashback but only the reassuring guff about how good they were at doing it.
Have other people found them helpful? Reliable? Any comments.
Thanks,
Juno1

You are brave asking that question on here  - first rule of these sort of deals is find out all the T&Cs etc before signing up.

I assume that you have been back on the site and downloaded all relevant T&Cs/process/FAQs etc relating to your deal? If not, do so pronto. Have you only just signed up? Did you receive details of the cashback with the phone/during sign up? If not, contact them and ask. And search on here for mobiles.co.uk - they are now owned by Carphonewarehouse which does not necessarily mean that it will be okay, as they also own e2save and OSPS who are now notorious for their attituted to paying out on these deals (see the threads about them).

    Good luck

  • Very good advice for someone who has made a lot of very basic errors from the start; I am sure they are not the only one. This dealer's t&c are much clearer than the rest of cpw and no claim forms are required. Dates are clearly defined and since they are part of cpw you can always sue if they don't pay - provided you have done things right. On that basis I have a contract running with them and am confident of getting my money as usual. However, I'm never complacent and assumed I'd have to sue long before the the day I took the contract out. No-one should ever enter into any cashback deal without the research; far too few do much of that at all - and even fewer suffficient. It should surprise me that people still jump in despite hundreds of thousands losing their money; but human nature will prevail. Once in it's time to do your own research - something which should have been done beforehand but plainly wasn't.

Look in my own defence - and all those others who look like idiots - I spent about eight hours going through the comparison websites and began with Martin's advice to get the basic tarrif right so the cashback isn't crucial. I've never had anything but the very cheapest basic second hand payg mobile before so working out what all the extras were was a struggle in itself! I did try and check whether the company had a good reputation or not but it just got to be all too much - so I accepted the phone and the tariff was right and now am treating this as the next step. I hope you people don't object to being asked for information. I do appreciate the advice very much.
  • Comparison sites make their money by referring you - so it's in their interests to sell you a deal. Martin's advice isn't always sound - there have been very angry people on here who have followed it (eg re. the famous Virgin sim deal on E2ave) only to have serious problems. 8 hours (mainly on the tariff etc.) is a small fraction of what's necessary for those comtemplating any cashback deal with no previous experience. In that respect it's not only true but fairly obvious that "you don't get something for nothing" etc. Cashback deals usually offer vastly inferior value if you don't actually get the cashback.

I actually have spent hundreds of hours on here trying to prevent people from falling into the usual traps - a little bit of research on cashback deals might have at least brought you to this for starters:-

Although it is now about 18 months since I bothered to write it many still jump in and rely on advice from others on here who do spend a lot of time on cashback deals; the advice they receive is not always sound. I always hope that my repeating this message will prevent at least some from rushing into these deals in the future - especially with such disreputable companies as cpw.
  • My worst experience with them. I just lost my phone number. I ordered a contract and cancelled it before the good arrived. The guy asked me to contact the network provider and when I connected the network provider, he said the vendor should have asked for PAC.
    Not sure what to do.
  • I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. I have previously had 2 redemption contracts (with buymobilephones.net and phones4u) which I successfully got all the money out of. The T&C on the mobiles.co.uk actually seems fairly reasonable (60 days rather than the 14 days on buymobilephones). They also seem fairly clear on what you need do.

What I wanted to know is basically has anyone had any dealings with them and are they basically reasonable? If I make all the deadlines have they paid up without too much trouble.

Or try doing a Google with something like "mobiles.co.uk" problems and see what comes up ;)
It's not just about the money
  • Looks like they aren't a great bet, not worth risking all that money on. Shame Phone4U doesn't have any similar deals.

Thanks, could have saved me a lot of money.

Just back from 2 weeks away on holiday and it's like I've never been gone! Good old mobiles.co.uk back in the flak, except for the big surprise of an almost positive statement from MJ in post#3.

The Christmas spirit must be getting to you, guys!

Summary of comments over the months - stick to the t&c and you will get paid (almost certainly) but be sure you understand them, check you are getting the deal you think you are and be prepared to wait up to a couple of months for your cashback. But their customer services ain't brilliant and if you change your mind, be sure to return the phone - no matter what - within 14 days. So, if you see a good deal and are reasonable lierate and confident, go for it. As MJ writes, he has done and always gets paid.

Don't get too excited, Mr. "lierate". That was in January when I was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt before taking anyone else there. Now I have used them for a longer period I would use them as a last resort (because they will still be around to sue). They are completely dishonest and don't care a damn about their customers. As far as Buymobilephones is concerned, THEY switched to a 60 day claim period LONG before this outfit. Despite being higher risk (small fry) their deals are better and they seem more honest than ANY cpw company.

It is naturally as if you've never been gone - this company has absolutely no intention of shedding its disreputable image except for the odd attempt at illusion.
