Weekly Flylady Thread 26th January 2009

Hey everyone,
I've had a quick skim of a few pages back, looks like lots of hugs are needed so sending lots of huggy vibes to everyone. It will get better, just think positive - I know it's hard sometimes, and I am the most negative person ever! But there is a brighter side, and sometime things happen for a reason, a good reason.
Anyways - thank you to everyone giving me a good kicking to get my hide in to gear as my MIL & FIL came Friday evening to stay for the weekend. They'v gone now, they left early because of the snow. It's quite bad here, and I'm in Kenley. Wondering how we're going to get to work, nursery etc... We'll just have to see what the morning brings. Hope every one is warm and cosy. I did manage to clean the whole house in about 4 hours on Friday, it was manic, but it's all done now, and now that the clutter is all hidden away under the bed, as greenbee advised - I also paid extra spcial attention to the guest room, which is normally the spare room dumping ground. But having the clutter all hidden means I can now start working through the flylady thread daily, without the clutter distracting me.
So THANK YOU!!
Housework only gets noticed when it's not done.My fake plants died because I did not pretend to water them. Can never keep up with the thread - otherwise I'll never get anything done! But hugs to All :grouphug:XxX0 -
Greenbee - try dancing shops - the sort that sell leotards. The one in our town centre sells masks like that (and hen party stuff - and flags of all nations
)
(I knew it -velvet cloths - masked balls - posh)
If I am invited out for dinner (at DS GF's parents) would just turning up with a bottle be acceptable or is the fashion to take a gift?
It's a very un-posh masked ball believe me, and the velvet cloths are off-cuts from some not very nice curtains I had altered from my grandparents house to fit my brother's house in Devon in an attempt to make it habitable in winter... why waste them?!
Take a bottle or a plant if you feel you have to take something. The gift thing seems to be recent, and TBH, lots of people seem to be going off it - it's hassle for both giver (rushing round to find something appropriate at the last minute, not too much, not too small), and the receiver (if you're trying to cook and socialise, do you really have time to open and deal with a gift?!).
Don't take flowers... they take time to be dealt with. If you're going to do flowers, send them afterwards. Chocolates can be problematic due to allergies (and its January... diet season)
Lots of people have stopped taking bottles too... as its always difficult to know whether the hosts have actually planned drink to go with the meal and now feel that they should drink what you have brought (the alternative being to take something that is clearly meant to be drunk on another occasion!).
Socalising is a minefield really... !0 -
oh they are lovely Valli - much better than mine!!!
what you really want is one of those Venetian ones and hand made and stunning!
A bottle would fine Valli - a token of appreciation for being invited - their favourite wine if you can find out would show that you have really put thought into it or flowers/ plant and after dinner choccies
toots xx
ETA oops just read Greenbee's post - shows how out of touch I am!!!Peace will be mine

If I were going to go down the flower route I would take an arrangement, as opposed to cut (cos I am not crass and I think it shows a bit more thought BUT it's Valentine's night so they would cost an arm and a leg) but I was thinking of taking a bottle. In all likelihood the meal will be Italian, which would suggest a red if I were matching the meal...I could take Chablis (cos I like that). Posh handmade chocs are a possiblility not least because there are TWO handmade choc shops in town and one near Morrisons and another one in the village where I work...so that would be supporting local unique businesses. Well, one of them...
I might be able to get a wreath cheap though :rotfl:
I think I have been invited out to dinner 'properly' about twice before...last time the wine cost 19/6 (old joke, that - and historically inaccurate:rotfl:)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
JJef - Happy Birthday
Rach - Where did you get your MBTs? I would love some half price ones.
Dusty - hope you had a good break?
Diva - thinking of you and Tristan
Shattered - but I know have a new wall between the kitchen and the back hall, plus a lovely new door. No more drafts, the house is tons warmer already and the kitchen looks much better. Hoping to do some painting in the week then tile the hall floor next week. DH has worked really hard, so I have cleaned up after him, plus changed bedding, done HHI and sorted stuff for the morning.
Valli - the chocolate sounds lovely to me, it is something I wouldnt waste my money on but would love to receive. If they are dieting they could always serve it up with the coffee? Flower Do you take orders?
I love those :T
Thank you embb - the cushion cover is for an I**a chair that had a white cushion on it, so I had to cover to match the ladies bedroom, and the throw is like a quilt - same width as the fabric and just bordered all around - took blooming ages tho and I stuck myself with about 50 pins too, so sorry to say, but no - I don't think I could do that as a business and start taking orders - I think it would kill me, one offs only... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Oh and thank you too Toots, and for the lovely words - which you should heed yourself as 19 things on eBay is 19 more than me... well done! :T
Pigpen - love the reply - straight to the point as always...
