The posh places are a now and again treat.
As for price. In our local Harvester a 3 course meal mostly deep fried frozen stuff will cost about £20. Our superb 3 course lunch at Claridges was £30 each. Plus we were given chocolates to finish, offered a tour of the kitchen. The food looked like art on a plate.
Went to the Harvester a week ago, sent back my first meal because the jacket spud was rock hard and the chicken breast black, actually looked as if it had caught fire and been put out. The second attempt was no better but as my companions had finished their main courses I gave up.
Unfortunately a lot of British people prefer to eat at Harvester than at Claridges.0 -

It's not that the food is bad, it's just not particularly special.
Let's face it, food gets extraordinarily ordinary in England.
Which explains why it was dressed up and presented as something special to attract the attention of a bored public with lots of cash. I bet there aren't many countries where you can buy a bag of "Hand cooked King Edward potato chips with Sargasso sea salt and Somerset cider vinegar" for example.
Got to be worth paying twice as much for as a bag of salt and vinegar crisps - because you're worth it.
The advent of cold hard financial reality will likely spell the end for all this ridiculous 'food !!!!!!' that we have been subjected to over the last few years as well as 'property !!!!!!' and the stupid celebrity culture that has pervaded the media. Good riddance.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -
(I've never visited the US:-)).
Dem "Yankees" have made a whole menu out of the things we 'normal' people throw away........Chicken Wings, Potato Skins etc etc !!!!
And they have a whole 'cuisine' called BBQ, and the one thing they don't use to cook the bl**dy food is a BBQ !!!!!!!!!!!'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
The one that really gets me is the supposition by the majority that totts will only eat smiley faces, sausages and chicken dippers, yet I dont notice this propensity with Scandinavian or Med' kids.
It's just a state of mind. Did all Brit kids die of rickets before chicken dippers were invented?
When we eat out our kids are always given the normal menu, not the smiley faces menu, and they get terribly excited, and that despite my being a fussy eater as a child (cause Dad force fed us!)
Well Mrs Generali give our kids dinner and if they eat it, they eat it and if they don't they don't. No cajoling, no alternatives. 2 courses usually. If you don't like your mains you still get the same pudding. If you don't like your pudding then you've had mains.
They eat most stuff most of the time. Sometimes they don't want to eat something and that's their choice. Sometimes I don't fancy stuff.
Tonight was MacDonalds (out for Australia day) followed by Pavlova at home. Last night was roast chicken with lemon and thyme with a sort of roasted ratatouille that I do. Both were eaten with gusto.
I know a lovely English woman who, the last time I saw her, had given her son his 3 choice of dinner and was chasing him up and down the house trying to feed him! I will never do that. The advent of cold hard financial reality will likely spell the end for all this ridiculous 'food !!!!!!' that we have been subjected to over the last few years as well as 'property !!!!!!' and the stupid celebrity culture that has pervaded the media. Well the dumb thing is good food needn't be expensive. Take some the great French dishes:
Poule au pot
Beouf Bourginon
Soupe a l'onion gratinee
Coq au vin
Moule marinieres
Pot au feu
All dead cheap or should be if you make them right.0 -

Although PR wise he's getting lots of damage (which can put some people off eating in his restaurants) like the fact that he was caught with two MEN in a public toilet and charged with GROSS PUBLIC INDECENCY! YUK! He admitted to the offence and was let off with an official Caution...........let's hope he washes his hands properly before he ponces about with all that meat and sweetbreads!!
Can I have a link to this:eek:0 -

Are you related to Oliver Cromwell ????'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
Serves him right - the cheater! I hate people who pretend to be wholesome just to make a buck.If you keep doing what you've always done - you will keep getting what you've always got.0

If Ramsay is still serving this:Signature dishes include fried oysters with fennel and lemon, glazed asparagus, pea and leak tart and a veal and foie gras burger with cos lettuce, parmesan and chips.
in his T5 place, he deserves to go down the pan :rolleyes:Not even wrong0 -
I hope he survives simply because I like the guy. I love the way he tells you exactly what he's thinking and doesn't care how important you (think) you are. If he doesn't like you (or your food) then he'll tell you without beating about the bush.
The world needs more of people like him imho instead of all these namby-pamby touchy-feely do-gooders that tell you what you want to hear so that your ikkle feewings don't get hurt.
Good luck and all the best to you Gordon :T :j .

Sorry but the likes of Ramsey (and Clarkson for that matter) just come across to me as being the 'official' non-PC characters presented by the media to the public. They are playing a role, presenting an acceptable form of rebellion to contrast to the blandness and conformity of most of the media's characters and giving someone 'safe' for people to identify with.
Anyone who genuinely had completely non-PC, non-conformist, non-establishment outlook with strong views wouldn't get anything like the sort of media coverage that Ramsey does.--
