Ramsey is a fighter and the heart of his success has been the food - quality of ingredients, quality of preparation and presentation.
He does risk brand dilution I suppose, but I reckon he'll come out of this intact. At least his celebrity value will remain. There was a sense of a loss of control. We had to put a padlock on the cellar because thousands of pounds' worth of wine was going missing. And we had to call in the police because food and kitchen equipment had been nicked."Happy chappy0 -
Can't see it happening - the mark up on restaurant food is astronomical and ramsey probably has more chance of pulling in the crowds than some anonymous restaurant in the same high street. The fact there is normally a waiting list will only prove to be an opportunity for anyone else to eat there without needing to wait 2 months.
His restaurant chain is definitely not a flash in the pan!
The mark up is not high as you think even in top restaurants. his rate will be mid 30s i reckon on his top earners..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
He could do with organising an online voucher, like the Pizza Express ones.I am a trainee actuary, and really enjoy talking about pensions, economics and my job. But I suppose I should point out that all replies are for information or discussion only, and shouldn't be taken as advice: everyone's circumstances and pension schemes will be different.0

Crisis for Gordon Ramsay's restaurant empire as credit crunch bites

I love going to the posh restaurants. A wee while ago I had lunch at the Gordon Ramsey restaurant in Claridges. The food was amazing, service exemplary, worth every darned penny. I have never tasted food like it.
Going to try The Ivy in April. hope it is as good.
Rock on Gordon0 -

The most expensive meal I ever had (didn't pay for it thank goodness) was a works' do. £25 for a Xmas meal, probably counted as 5 courses. It tasted lovely (not a mucked about Xmas menu), but that's a hefty wedge.0 -
I dated a celebrity has been chef for a few years. Honestly I wouldn't go to one of these restaurants now unless I was forced to for a work thing. After six months with said chef I was desperate for a plate of egg and chips. Luckily most of the people I mix with are musicians and the poshest we get is Nandos
other than that it's a sandwich from a service station or a kebab after a gig.
And frankly I never could tell the difference between a £6 bottle of wine and a £250 one.:A

I went to The Ivy for Sunday lunch a couple of years back. It's a completely different sort of place to Claridges.
The service at The Ivy is brilliant, perhaps the best in the UK.
The food? It's ok, certainly nothing wrong with it but not a patch on say St John's or Claridges or even Rules.
If you love really good food, go to St John's on St Johns Street. For my money, it's the best food on sale in Britain. If you are looking for a really nice evening out with good service and nice china and all that stuff then The Ivy should be right up your street. I reckon Claridges has the best trade-off of the 2 things with The Savoy Grill a close second.0 -
I hope he survives simply because I like the guy. I love the way he tells you exactly what he's thinking and doesn't care how important you (think) you are. If he doesn't like you (or your food) then he'll tell you without beating about the bush.
The world needs more of people like him imho instead of all these namby-pamby touchy-feely do-gooders that tell you what you want to hear so that your ikkle feewings don't get hurt.
Good luck and all the best to you Gordon :T :j .

I think his food is overrated - and he doesn't cook it himself either. But he's so rich that he'll survive - no fear of that. Although PR wise he's getting lots of damage (which can put some people off eating in his restaurants) like the fact that he was caught with two MEN in a public toilet and charged with GROSS PUBLIC INDECENCY! YUK! He admitted to the offence and was let off with an official Caution...........let's hope he washes his hands properly before he ponces about with all that meat and sweetbreads!!:eek:0
