    or this

Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) has denied reports that it faces financial difficulties, after it was claimed the troubled Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is recalling a £10m business loan

  • First job I worked out of school was a commis in a posh kitchen, Ramseys character probably isn't affected, pretty much every decent chef I've come across is more or less just like Ramsey. Its to do with the high pressure of working in a good kitchen, the long hours, and macho atmosphere, only a certain personality type tends to reach the top- catering has one of the highest rates of alcoholism and overall stress of any industry. His appeal to the audience is just as you say, but he doesn't have to put it on, the nice guy chefs probably do.

I always get a chuckle out of Masterchef or The Restaurant when an advertising exec or whatever talks about thier dream of owning 'a little place', serving local produce, seasonal cooking blah blah. Because I know they're not dreaming about working 120 hours a week to turn a small loss, which is what happens to 85% of small restaurant owners.

    Oh come on!!!:o

Ramsay probably only puts in about 2 hours a week cooking (if that!) in his restaurants!

And even when he was starting I doubt he put in 18 hours a day!

You can't possibly compare a COOK with, say, a Brain Surgeon, Soldier, or Fighter Pilot - who suffer REAL STRESS!!

Knocking up a sauce, or frying a steak is not exactly stressful - unless you're a wimp! And considering Ramsay employs a swarm of chefs to cook his meals for him I can't see what all the effing, blinding and stress is about!!

It's obviously all show! I've been to many top class restaurants and have never heard shouting, pans flying and fighting going on in the kitchen!

Ramsay is just a foul-mouthed exhibitionist who wants to appear macho to prove some kind of point!! Probably that he'd rather be wearing a frilly pinny instead of chef's whites!:o

    He's just a cook!

Just watched Ramsay and he is worried about the crunch he was helping some restaurants turn out some decent affordable meals to woo the locals in and drumming them up to use locally sourced produce etc instead of Macro sh1te. You would have thought the restaurant owners and local suppliers would be talking but there has been a lack of communication obviously. Flash Gordons been round and kicked their a rses so jobs a good un. :T

I watched a few minutes of that programme, but when I realised Gordon's Tourette's was in full F****** flow I turned it off.:p

I cannot bear swearing - even when it's justified - but when some snout-faced twerp like him thinks it's cool to say F*** every third word I find it dead BORING!!

He's just a podgy-faced WIMP who wants to look cool. Well he ain't cool!:p He's just a poofy pastry chef whose learnt how to knock up a few sauces and dishes. Anyone can cook if they follow a recipe and buy decent ingrediants.:money:

PP I'm sort of agreeing with you again, I'm getting worried now.

Even I found his language too much now, although I did watch the whole program. I'm no shrinking violet, worked on enough building sites with the roughest of blokes in my time, but Ramsay's gratuitous use of the word f*** left him looking stupid.

Funnily enough I was waiting up for the OH to come home and turned over to watch some series that followed police around catching and dealing with mainly drunks on the streets. If you swear in public its an offense and you will be arrested. Apparently if you are a famous chef you can broadcast it to the nation and thats OK.

Alright, I know someones going to say you can turn the TV off and that true, I wasn't offended by his language, I just thought it made him look silly.

There is a tendancy in business to want to expand too quickly. The best advice I read was in the Millionaire Next Door which was essentially a study of real American millionaires.
True millionaires often are the ones you least expect.

I've know people who own humble looking sweat shops down in commerical road, London that are millionaires.

At the same time I think about the flash lawyers and thier ilk where I live that have a very lavish lifestyle, but I bet on paper thier are no where near net millionaires.
