Check out these collection of shoes from the link. I got 3 different pairs for my kid and they look so comfy on them. Originally bought one as a gift but decided to keep it. :rotfl: Search for cosy animal baby shoes on amazon. they have a nice list of stuff.0

What about this a bit pricey but gift that mum and dad can fill out and pass to child as she gets older0 -
I bought my cousin a nappy bin disposal unit for £30 from Amazon - she said it was the best thing she had ever got!0

As a mum of two I would say that a hamper of baby toiletries is so impractical. Babies don't need talc, baby oil, baby lotion etc... water and cotton wool is all that is needed at first and then maybe some baby wash (I am about a third of the way through a bottle of baby wash that was opened three months ago). I will be the first to admit that when I was pregnant with my first I bought TONS of toiletries - most of which have recently been disposed of, unopened and 4 years on!0

basic clothes (vests, babygrows) in bigger sizes 6-9 or 9-12 months
vouchers for mothercare or other baby shops which are close to where they live
a seahorse - I kid you not, my girls loved theirs!! http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3492426.htm
remember to get something for mum and dad - a film, some choc and crisps, a takeaway voucher, . perhaps not alcohol if breastfeeding!0 -
My DS is now 5 months old and the best gifts i recieved were:
*Baby sleeping bags either in 0-6 months or 6-12 months. DS seems to get through a couple of sleeping bags per week as he's often sick/gets them dirty.
*Baby hand/feet printing kit. We recieved one of these, but it was one that you do yourself at home and i found it not very practical. My friend however paid to have hers done professionally and i think you can buy vouchers.
I agree with other posters about not buying newborn clothes as they grow out of them so quick. My DS was born in February and the shops were stocking summer clothes, but it was freezing for a few months after. He recieved some lovely short romper suits but was too big once it was warm enough to wear them. So if you buy clothes think about the size and the weather at the time.
We recieved a voucher for Kiddicare off one relative and i would have preffered vouchers off people if someone wanted to buy a gift as now DS is older he needs so much stuff, he currently needs a new car seat, a stroller, bigger clothes and travel cot so theres always something to put money towards.

Something practical. A hamper including nappies & milk if FF.
Something like a playmat for the baby as they spend hours on themMy little boy absolutely loved his and mean't I could get stuff done around the house.
You could always have them around for dinner? Or cook a meal and take it to them to save them cooking. & Just be there and be a friend, I could have done with a couple more of them in the first few weeks!0 -
I suggest clothing but lots of sizes up. Someone got me sets of sleepsuits and babygrows from about 6m+ I remember at the time not thinking much of it but at the 6mth stage I was so grateful that I already had those and didn't need to worry about buying them with so much other expense.
I remember that gift loads more than the newborn/early size clothes I was brought that only got worn once or twice.0
