Well done - they are getting on much better than mine! I grew mine in compost bags and they started off really well. However, in the last 3 weeks, they developed brown patches on the leaves, which quickly turned yellow and promptly dropped off - grrrr! However, I had a root around in the bags and there are LOADS of good-sized potatoes - I've been eating them all week! From 2 of the seed potatoes, I have got about 2.5lb of spuds so far :T That's only from one bag - so plenty more to come hopefully, despite the dieing foliage:rolleyes:0 -
I've just picked three and a half pounds of Charlotte salad potatoes from 3 potatoes planted in a medium sized patio container. Have no idea whether this is a fair yield or not but am just relieved to have got something for my trouble. Still have three potato sacks of other varieties waiting to be harvested but as the foliage is still growing in them, will leave them until they start to die back.
As the potatoes weren't diseased or blighted, I'm now planning to save some money by reusing this compost for potatoes again next year, but replacing the used-up nutritional value by mkxing in kitchen waste to rot down, and putting the pot in a nice sunny place where everything will heat up and quickly decompose. I know people don't recommend re-using compost for the same vegetable a second year round but I'm a great believer in trying to break some of the rules to see if it works.0
