What on earth kind of emergency needs a tumble drier?!
I agree to show her how much she costs/would pay on her own to give her a wake up call. Maybe you could give her the food budget one week and tell her to do the shopping for that amount, bet she can't do it.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Aww sorry to hear that.
I think you need to explain to her exactly how hard it is living on your own. You dont realise how lucky you are living at home till you have to move out!! I moved out from my parents pretty much straight after leaving uni and i find it a real struggle on my own i'd much rather be living at home paying £450 pcm all in rather than £450 +CTAX+water rates+ insurance+gas/electric+phone+broadband+food+any other running costs!!
You seriously need to sit her down and expalin the situation to her and if that doesn't work then tell her she is free to go if she doesn't like it.:j0 -
I would ask her if she would rather a few areas are cut back or she had a roof over her head? Although this could come across quite harsh

The other option is as above where you reduce her board slightly and tell her that is room only and she has to buy her own food, drink, washing/cleaning stuff together with her own plates, cuttlery etc, that she will have allocated times for using the washing machine and washing her dishes, her room only also only constitues of her room and the bathroom, use of the living room is not included and see how quickly she will stop complaining!

thankyou all for your support and advice i will sit her down when her boyfriend has gona as she fails too forget that he stays here most weekends so maybe i should start charging her for having him here as well

You could send your daughter to the launderette and let her do her own laundry

If she doesn't like the yogurts, stop giving them to her.
Dare we ask how much is she paying, or what % of her wage to live in poverty

That's a good idea - charge your daughter for having her boyfriend stay over (him staying over means more work and more expense for you).
I hope she sees sense - I would love to be a fly on the wall when you talk to her.0 -
Hi glo
Does your daughter work?
How much board does she pay?
I'm in total agreement with everybody else on here, if she doesn't like how you run the household then she should look for accommodation elsewhere.
For heaven's sake - what on earth is wrong with buying bread when it's reduced and popping it in the freezer?
I'd rather buy a loaf of decent bread that's been reduced than buy cheap bread fresh (if that makes sense).
Actually, from what you've said she sounds VERY self-centred, but maybe she's not really like that.
I would hope that when you sit her down and explain 'the facts of life', she understands where you're coming from.
If she can't (or won't) understand money saving now, she'll be posting on this board herself in a few years when she's got herself into debt.0 -
hi all yes she earns £975 a month and she does pay the rent and council tax that i lost when she started work i cannot work as have a disabled son she also gives me 120 a month for food gas electric water and toiletries etc.. she has nearly £700 a month in her pocket0
-
blimey...............tell her.........I earn around £700 a month for my first job, get £100 WTC and then have to make it up with a second job to pay the bills (mortgage etc) which means me working 7 days a week - permanently.....
If she still isn't happy, tell her I'll swap - she can live in my house and pay my mortage and bills on her £975 per month (she'll need a second job though!) and I'll live with you for the amount she pays!
I'll even cook for you if you like for that level of board and keep!
