It's something I should have mentioned previously, and it's embarrasing, but I'm actually a qualified technician myself. I just can't do my own (I give myself great pedicures though, hah!)

The products used were fine thankfully (same as I use) and on closer inspection, rather than cut me, she 'grazed' my finger with the electric buffer quite deeply. It's healing, but my bf grabbed my hand earlier and I yelped in pain. She's also cut the thumbnails disproportionately smaller then the rest of them; but as I use a computer at work I don't mind so much. I won't be going back there though - I think I'll just train myself to do back-to-front nails!

Kitty I am also a qualified technician. Its hard to do your own nails and takes a hell of a long time. If you are right handed do your right hand first and likewise if you are left handed the other way about. Reason...........

If you do it this way about you will find that you have got the hard hand out of the way and it will be much quicker and easier to do the other.

Sorry to hear about the bad time you had. I don't go near places that use the electric file as this is a lot harsher on the nail bed and in some places they just don't know when enough is enough. A good old bit of elbow work doesn't do anybody any harm.

Just started comping again, wish me luck!!!

  • teenage daughter recently being showing interest in becoming a nail technician.

how do you learn ?? .

is it a case of starting with part time job in a salon and learning from scratch

.. or daughter mentioned something about going on a proper course .

What does that entail in time needed , cost etc ??

There are various courses out there that vary in price. Some will include a starter kit in their price.

The cheapest place to learn is at college this is what I done. It takes a lot of practice and patience to learn. I remember the first set of nails I done took me 3 1/2 hours thankfully this is down to about 50 minutes now.

Just started comping again, wish me luck!!!
