Can an unlocked 3G phone be used on a 2G network?

I assume that it can but DH doesn't believe me!

Eg a phone bought from 3 network, to use on virgin after unlocking.

yeah that should work fine - virgin network is on 2g & 3g - 3 only have 3g.

the reason it won't log onto 3g at moment is because 3 sim can't log onto 2g - nothing to do with phone

providing the option to use 2g is enabled in the phones settings, then yes

I assume so as it should pick the 2G default network if no 3 coverage.
