  • Forget China its going down fast.

Japan is the place to move to.

The Yen is getting stronger by the day. You can earn 30-50 quid an hour teaching English.

What about all the complaining about Brown trying to control peoples lives, and they suggest we move to China :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Why do people think learning a language is a passport to another country?

Have you HEARD the unintelligible English most foreigners manage here, even when they've lived here years or are educated/business people?

Really, it's too late to start learning now. And, already in this thread, there's been the suggestion of China (lots of different versions of the language there in any case) and Japan ... how many languages should somebody learn?

Other countries learn English because English is the first business language. But which do WE choose?

I'm going nowhere. Never been abroad, scared ... and the US/Aus etc won't take me because of lack of skills they're after and age (major factor, they're SO ageist you know!)

I wouldn't like the prospect of higher taxes to pay for baby_boomer pensions and bank bail-outs.

But Mandarin is a tough language to learn, and we Brits are pretty bad at languages.

On the positive side, I agree with PN that we have the advantage of speaking the current world business language. And although our bank situation is almost certainly worse than elsewhere, we don't have the prospect of a lower future population which would compound the problem.

Unless everyone listens to Jim Rogers ;).
  • Don't China have 9 million unemployed graduates themselves?
but how many of them have useful degrees and know english as well. after all knowing english is needed in business today. knowing chinese is a bonus and not the other way around.

What I'm wondering is who will be paying the pension of today's youngsters. Let's face it, they won't be in a position to pay the pensions of their parents (which is the excuse used for breeding them). Wasn't that why millions were supposedly pumped into benefits and education etc? Well, with all that money rolling in, it created the underclasses, who are just a financial drain on the people who will/intend to work in the future.

    Pensions - the next pyramid.

You dont have to learn the language these days.

Well, like everything, it's only well-known if you're in the know.

That's a fortune. Why aren't we all out there for 6 months of the year teaching English then? Why hasn't some enterprising person set up a small hostel and encouraged English people to pop over there, accommodation and meals provided and £20/hour for work done ...?

£50/hour is a full-time equivalent of £100k. I can't see it being realistic, or the work's done by wives of men out there working (so they don't need to LIVE on the money) - and there's only 1 hour's work per day doing it.
