High milage corsa - any opinions please?
Hi Guys,
I've seen a Corsa 1.3CDTI Sxi - its a new shape 56 plate (December 06) and has done 79,000 miles.
It's had one lady owner from new and has full vauxhall service history. Asking price is £4995. Have had a test drive, it drives well and is immaculate inside.
We are looking at the car as a second car, will probably be used twice a week about 3,000 miles a year.
Is 79,000 too high? how many miles can you expect from car like this? Is it an ok buy, or should I steer well clear?
Thanks
Jenny

79,000 is not high mileage these days. Should be fine, but asking price a bit high.0

79K is high for a 2 yr old car, at 3K miles pa, you'd need to keep it 6/7 yrs to get back to average mileage. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

thats not high mileage, age is irrelevant
Its condition that is more important
If its done all those miles around towns, it will be tatty/in bad condition
if its motorway miles the mechanics will probably be in good shape
i think you need to be aware of the timing chain on some corsas0 -
Small cars are always in demand nowadays, especially by the under 25 new drives because of high insurance, this keeps the prices high.
If it has a full service history then the mechanics should be ok, the milage is well above average for an 06 car and corsas don't usually get used for motorway runs, the price seems a bit high, a quick look on the Autotrader website showed 06 Corsas going for £5000 with 20,000 to 30,000 miles on.0 -

I did have a quick look on auto trader and saw the same as you, i think tho its a bit more as its the new shape and also an sxi, I could only see older shapes and life/club for around the same price???
Thanks for your reply.0 -
79,000 is NOT high mileage for a diesel car in terms of what it can do compared to a petrol, however it is very high for the age of the car....
What would concern me is:
a) if those 79k had been done around town, thats a hell of a lot of stopping and starting i.e. wear and tear on a cold engine....
b) if its 79k of motorway miles on a 1.3 engine which is not really very high powered engine, all those miles at 70-80 mph+......
Have a look on autotrader and see if you can find a better deal....0 -
I've had 2 diesel corsas, both had to have a new alternator at around 70,000 miles, I fitted one on the corsa I still own last week, easy enough job but cost was £105 from my local parts store, they have a vacuum pump attached for the brake servo which ups the price, not sure if the new shape corsa has the same mechanics, the starter motors can play up a bit, but again it's an easy enough fix, I change the oil every 6 months, the filters are a pain to get to unless you have small hands, but all in all they're great little cars t drive and work on.0

1 lady driving instructor owner?
Lot of miles for 2 year old car. Has it been used for learner drivers? Might be signs of this around the car where stickers have been applied? Perhaps marks on the roof?
If I could assure myself it hadn't and was happy with the price, 79k is nothing.0 -

lol don't have a clue about cars, tbh wouldn't be changing the oil myself!
We are just a bit wary about the high mileage, had a little saxo a few yrs back (i know, rubbish) from new, got to 90k miles and cost a fortune every month, just don't wanna be lumbered with something like that again. On the other hand the car we have a the mo is a bmw 118d and that costs a fortune for parts, run flat tyres but we've only done 28k on a 55 plate! So don't want something else thats gonna cost a bomb to keep, decisions decisions!
Thanks for your help:beer:0 -

Hmm, never thought of that but could make sense! previous owner from a small village & not many big towns/cities or motorways, or really anywhere to drive round here! I'll have another look at it.
thanks!:D0
