Finding the amount of jobs available is dwindling to almost nothing..and those that are available are hopelessly oversubscribed with applicants.
Cost of food is still up, cost of gas and electric up, diesel was down which offset some of that but is now going up again.
Brother finding it hard going as a taxi driver as customers are stopping using them and either staying in or walking due to lack of funds, this has meant that we had to have a family crisis meeting at the tail end of this week and I have been designated the sorter outer. He decided he was going to give his flat up (private rent) and buy a Ford Transit to live in until I told him it wasn't a good move (would lose rights of having his children etc). Have now sorted a budget out for him, got him to take on an extra shift and ebay/amazon/dealer all the stuff he can to provide much needed money. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
My weekly food shopping bill has gone up about £20 for the same stuff I always bought. Out of the 30-ish shops on the high street 6 are shut down. My mum is a pensioner and the money she got off her savings has dropped right down. My sister sells ski chalets - this time last year she was selling 3 a week, today she told me she hasn't sold a single one since august so naturally she reckons she'll get the boot soon. My husband has a shop and the takings now only cover the staff pay.
So sadly here in London we are feeling it.0 -

You're a very confident young man, aren't you? You and pickles could've been separated at birth
What have I seen personally?
(1) I've seen new claims in my local jobcentre rise by 300% in four months.
(2) The staff in this jobcentre have been asked to open from 8am-8pm, which has never, ever happened before, to cope with the rise in unemployment.
(3) Many shops locally are closing and most of the ones open (apart from supermarkets) have few buying customers in them compared with last year.
At the moment, when the job losses and closures are only just getting going, it's very patchy around the country, and some towns will be hit harder than others.
Give it time, young man, give it time.Fokking Fokk!0 -
Asda 'Smart Price' Curry Noodles, up from 8p to 10p, thats 25%.
Asda 'Smart Price' Tomato Sauce, used to be my favourite of any TS EVER. Now a few pence more expensive BUT they have obviously changed their supplier as it now tastes like %^&*.
if anyone knows who supplied Asda with their own brand TS up to about 3 months ago, please let me know.0 -

I think Robert Peston's blog on Monday will be about this very subject.0 -

My sisters work laid off 100 temps last week. 30 staff in one department have been asked to do a 3 day week for 8 weeks.
Petrol prices are going up again even tho the price of oil is low because of the weakness of the £. My G&E supplier has written to say they are uping our monthly payment after 2.5 years not because we have used more but to take into account their price rises in Autumn 2008. No sign of price cuts either. One of our local shopping centres has lost adams, officers club, wollies, mark one, zavvi is going as is the new look in there. Wollies, officers club, adams, mark one, newlook and a soft furnishing shop are all on the one level so its like a ghost centre now. On that level there is a superdrug, poundland, BHS and a small watch repair shop open.
local paper has a job section on a friday, used to be 400-500 jobs a week, on friday it was 127MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

My sister works for trading standards and has seen her workload triple due to suppliers in her area going bust/ items not delivered etc.
My mum works for a private health company organising healthcare packages for employers - most of her bonus is on new business ( clearly not happening!) and her income is significantly down.
Dad works for a Fruit & veg import & distribution company and his job on constant knife edge, as they mainly supply to hospitality ( hotels resturaunts etc) and they are buying less or closing down.
I work for a security company securing vacant commercial property so we are very busy, although I understand its getting quite difficult for a few of our property owners to pay thier invoices to us.
Auntie lost her job as conveyancing solicitor in August and only found a new one week before Xmas. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Every customer bar one (and I think they are lying) are losing work and some are in deep trouble.
I am worried about outstanding invoices owed, I'm worried about doing any work without prior payment, but if I don't for at least part, then I won't get any work at all.
Every customer is retrenching and retreating, no expansion going on at all.
I'm being rung by suppliers who aren't selling as much and are ringing round to try to dig up business. The ones that talk to me, tell me that they are dead in the water.
Subbies are ringing me to try to get work. Work forums are full of talk of lack of work.
My work is down by 80%, builders I know, are literally out of work completely.
Hows that?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
