    :D Some history....

Many, many years ago, many centuries ago in fact…. clay was used to make cooking pots and jars. The type of clay used was of an orange shade and called ‘pygg’ . It was only natural that if there were any spare coins in the household they would be put into a Pygg Jar … interesting eh…hee hee…

Of coarse over time when banks were invented the jars became known as Pygg Banks… the plot thickens… hee hee… In more recent times… about the 18th Century in fact, potters received increasing numbers of requests to make Pygg Banks.

This request allied with a possible mischievous misunderstanding resulted in the potters actually making Pig shaped pots. How wonderful and creative… lol…. The resulting works of art were painted and resulted in the world wide phenomenon and popularity of the Piggy Bank we all know and love today. Hooray…. :p

Can you add me too, greenfingers?
  • Is there an initiation ceremony of any sort to join the club ?
I would love to join but I am scared of heights, so if it involves standing on a window sill with a trouser leg rolled up I will have to reconsider. The trouser leg part is ok but heights are a no-no.
Thought it would be best to check.
    Thanks.

  • Jamiedodger - its a nationwide account, bonus saver.
I think halifax do one as well, you have to pay in 11 out of the 12 months to get your bonus, if you do make a withdrawal your bonus year restarts from that withdrawal. I've found this very useful to stop me dipping in to mine! Well until I really need it!
  • oooh i'd like to join too please!
currently have £0, but shall look for a container, and decorate it ready for the first monumental coin!
